Heron Cottage- fishermans cottage by the sea

Cute authentic cottage, clean, lots of room and good kitchen facilities. Take advantage of offers by the owner to pre-order local food for your stay. (There's a co-op nearby otherwise) Some good cafes in Anstruther you can walk to. Our winter stay made for great coastal walking, viewing moody skies and great sunrises!

Master bedroom smelt a bit musty but not unexpected given age and location of building. If you're tall, mind your head on the winding stairs. It took quite a while to warm up the cottage with the heating system. FYI -It's an old town with narrow streets (part of the charm!) and limited parking, especially if you have a large car or family van,so you may not be able to park outside or very near the cottage.

The cottage was perfect for our needs. It was spacious and comfortable.

Although in decent condition the property is slightly tired in places.

The cottage was comfortable and warm. It was well equipped, and tasteful. Great location in terms of walking into the town, or along the Fife coastal path (though parking is a bit of a nightmare).

The bottom floor (esp. the kitchen) smelled really badly when we got there (not sure of it was bad smelling disinfectant, or off fish). Even leaving the window open to air the kitchen didn't really seem to help very much. There's clearly a damp problem in the bathroom which could benefit from being looked at. Unexplained dehumidifiers running in the downstairs bedroom when we got there was a concern. We had to empty the dishwasher on arrival - surely someone else should be doing that... bit weird having to put other people's dishes away.

Location was fantastic.(lots to do) House was lovely in the way it was decorated - daughter adored top floor. Was great having 2 TVs gave flexibility in choice of programs

Downstairs was damp (smelt damp). Living room door handle was off when we arrived. Had maintenance round but was not fixed properly and continued to come off. Needs oven gloves

Front bedroom was unusable because of very strong smell of damp.We were unable to sleep in there due to health reasons because of the damp.Also I was given wrong code for key had to ring owner at 6pm to be told we had wrong number which I was told should have been updated but they did not ring back to ask if we had got in safely and did not check in with us to ask if everything was ok which I was a bit annoyed about.But the house comfort comfortable.

A lovely cottage in a great location - watching the sea from the kitchen window was wonderful. The rooms were all well appointed and comfortable, with lovely crisp clean bedding. There were lots of homely touches and nods to the sea which added to the holiday feel- very sweet.

The property was quite clean (bedding immaculate), but would benefit from a deeper clean and closer attention to detail in some areas. A touch up of paint to high traffic areas would freshen it up. DAB radio and/or bluetooth speaker would be great.
