JPWhere to start...? I booked this room almost a year before my trip (booking in August 2024, trip in May 2025), only to be told about a month before departure that there was "a double booking" and that my two options were basically to get a refund or be moved to a different location (advertised on AirBnB, a website/system which I usually avoid at all cost). Whoever owns these places (I never had a human contact with any staff) assured me that the new location was "an upgrade" (although suddenly there was no kitchen!), but in truth I will never know if what I paid was worth the value of the room we got. But anyways, at one month before departure, I wasn't going to cancel everything or go for an expensive last minute hotel room, so I was docile and accepted the switch. When we arrived to 510 Callender Street (new location), there were homeless people hanging out right next to our staircase. Upon entering the actual room, we found a dirty sock on the floor (picture attached). We were also a bit puzzled by the lack of key to lock the safety metal door from the outside, meaning that when we leave the building, we just have to trust that the regular wooden door with a code will be sufficient to detract any potential burglars. But by way of very concise text messages, the owner told us that "we never had problems before" and that "it's downtown Baltimore so there might be people in the streets" and that "you can lock the metal door when you're inside". But it's okay you know? We just kind of got used to getting in and out of the room with our new homeless neighbors who were shooting heroin while passively observing our privileged asses leaving all our valuables in a gentrifying accommodation they'll never be able to afford. Better trust that wooden door! Also when it wasn't upstairs neighbors stomping the floor at 3 AM, it was loud housecleaning early in the morning!
