Finest Retreats - Great Cantal Granary

The location is beautiful, and the kitchen was well stocked, the WiFi is good, & the electric blanket worked. The surrounding area is a must visit, even if not this property. Oh and the housekeeper is lovely and really helpful while the property owner was on holiday.

DO NOT STAY HERE. There is a pack of farm dogs that surround your car when entering and exiting the property. On occasions these dogs bit and damaged my car rear wheel arch (at around the height of a small toddler head). It is hard to understand the rationality behind the attack, therefore I would not trust them not to do this to a child too, if they were running and playing. The garden does not provide sanctuary from these dogs, with them being able to crawl under the access gate across the bridge. When approaching the property owner of this attack, and try and recuperate any money for the damage to my car (see pictures), I was simply told “not my responsibility”, “I do not own the dogs”. The management company were less than useful too, stating the same line, almost like this wasn’t the first time either had, dealt with an incident like this at this property. Yet both profited from my stay. The property is also very cold in the winter (December), and the owner, & property management company, threaten you with additional electric fees if you dare to use the electric heating to warm the place. We struggled to keep the temperature in the property above 16C (recorded using a temperature logger, see picture), even with hanging blankets as insulation over the doors that leaked the most heat. The kitchen utensils were grimy, not dirty as such, but we needed to hand wash most things before using them. This was probably due to the dishwasher not working the best, leaving us to hand wash most things again (due to the threatening messages from the management company about how we needed to leave the place or face even further charges.) The bed and sofa were very uncomfortable, yet the comfortable sofa bed is located in the bedroom where it is less than useful for relaxing on to watch TV. The shower has a non frosted window at chest height facing a public access road, meaning if you're a women you have to choose the optimum time to use to shower, hoping nobody looks...

It was exactly as advertised, no surprises. Secluded and very quiet, gorgeous scenery outside and well appointed inside. Good wifi and the kitchen knives were sharp. Our host was top notch.

Without a car it was a bit of a struggle, but were accommodated and appreciate that very much. A few little things could have made it 10/10 but we thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to return (with better weather but we did stay in September).

Lovely peaceful location, great to have rear and front gardens very dog friendly. Well equipped kitchen, house full of character & a brilliant base for exploring mid & south Wales. Highly recommend. We hope to return !

Very quaint and loved the originality of it. Beautiful setting. The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly.

It was just too cold. The two oil heaters were next to useless and we had had to have them both in the same room and literally on top of us. The shower room although beautiful, was absolutely freezing. The farm dogs have access all areas and with there being 4 of them they acted very aggressively as a pack when they spotted our dog. We couldn’t let him out or walk him around the land, we were particularly looking forward to this. We understand it’s a working farm but had we been told about them we would not of booked.

The location was beautiful, the bed was comfy and it made the perfect base for us to explore the area of Wales.

We found it difficult to get comfortable in the granary. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable, and some of the sofas and chairs weren’t much better. Wi-Fi connectivity was poor and so was TV reception, Tv also did not work properly. Property could do with a good dusting too.
