Kalamanthana Bali - Nature with Modern Comfort

We stayed here to climb Mt Batur (volcano), which the owners helped arrange for us. The property is beautiful and has all you need, with stunning views. The restaurant is only a 3-minute walk and serves excellent food, and the pool is mindblowing. A must-see! The owners are welcoming, making my wife, me, and our children feel safe and welcome. We would certainly return and are so pleased we booked this stay. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay.

Everything. From the hospitality to the attention to detail. The views alone are worth the escape from touristy areas but the wooden house is absolutely amazing. They are great hosts and are willing to help in anyway. I would have loved to stay longer

Best place we stayed in Bali. The Swiss owner took care of every detail. The wooden house is very cosy and has everything you need. Well equipped kitchen where you can cook your own food, a sofa to watch complimentary Netflix with comfort, med and sanitary kit in the bathroom. Extra towels for a pool. Perfectly working AC and absolutely the best bed with memory foam mattress that is extremely comfortable to sleep. We had an amazing breakfast brought to us from a nearby restaurant. The wifi worked well, enough for work and do video conferences. We can also recommend a driver with his car offered from the owner or option to rent a scooter. We wish we stayed longer.

Our stay at Kalamanthana absolutely made our trip! I can't really think of a single thing that could have been better. The hosts were amazing - helpful, friendly, accommodating - really went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. They helped to organise transfers to and from the cottage, arranged scooter rental, made great recommendations of places to go that matched our preferences, and were all round just great to talk to as well. The location is in a small village just outside of Sidemen. If you don't rent a car or scooter it may not be ideal but for us it was absolutely perfect. The scenery all around is absolutely stunning and the cottage itself overlooks a beautiful mountain valley covered in tropical rainforest. We were looking for somewhere that was not full of tourists and feels like 'authentic Bali' and this was it. If you don't like the heavy traffic, roads full of stores selling tat, and instagramers on swings that a lot of the more well-known areas of Bali are full of then you will probably love staying here as much as we did. The inside of the cottage is beautifully done with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Everything has been carefully thought about and the place was spotless. Super comfortable bed, Netflix, great shower with endless hot water and good pressure, unlimited environmentally friendly drinking water, delicious breakfasts (vegan catered for), and the ability to make real coffee - what more could anyone want?! We would happily stay here again and have been recommending it to everyone we know. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay :)

The only thing that took some effort was figuring out which setting on the convection hot plate was best for coffee (use the milk setting).

The place is perfect, built with dedicated care esp. in a rural area. We highly appreciated having the aircon during the hot humid nights in Bali, much more comfortable than the picturesque bamboo villas on Instagram. The hut is cozy, cute, and super clean. At night we could hear the soothing sounds of the insects that were extremely calm for a good sleep. There are excellent restaurants nearby plus a long swimming pool within walking distance of the middle of the forest. Sadly we wanted to stay longer but cannot arrange with a short notice. The host family is super nice and helpful. Will definitely come back for a longer stay.

The view was absolutely amazing. One of the best I've seen in Bali. The environment was so peaceful yet nature felt so alive. The restaurant (5 minutes away) was so good. The view from the restaurant was also amazing! The food was great. The cabin has everything you need, the kitchen is well equipped and you have a great bathroom, living room and bedroom. The sounds from the forest are perfect to put you to sleep, not too loud. Also they were so friendly and helpful.

Staying at Kalamanthana was a highlight of our six weeks in Bali. It's a small but perfectly appointed (and spotlessly clean) Swiss-style cabin containing everything you need – AC, good wifi, a small kitchen, a water filter, TV with streaming services, a bathroom with an excellent shower and a comfortable bed. So much thought and care has gone into everything, from the first aid kit to the complimentary snacks to the folder containing details of day trips and nearby activities. There are no other guests – it's just the one cabin, so it's a really quiet and personal experience. From the terrace the views are spectacular, the best we found on the whole of the island – lush, gorgeous views of the valley, accompanied by the sounds of insects. A 6-7 minute walk down steps is a beautiful hidden swimming pool, surrounded by the forest and available to guests, and there's a good Mexican-Italian restaurant a couple of minutes walk away (breakfast is from here – the huevos rancheros are almost as good as the views). Thank you to Rachel, Stefan, Reihan (and their pets, which our four year old child loved playing with) for their hospitality, advice and excellent company. They've created a little slice of paradise that feels a million miles away from Bali's touristy areas, and being able to share it with them, if only for a couple of nights, was truly a gift.
