"Loud dogs owned by neighbors ruined my stay here"

4.0

Location is very close to downtown. Street is close to Van Buren which attracts a fair share of interesting folks throughout the day and evening. Free parking onsite. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was nice, AC was efficient. Host left bottles of waters and snacks which was a nice touch.

I booked this place because of location and because there was a washer/dryer. W&D does exist but it's not in unit, it's in a locked shed outside, used by housekeeping. I had to run the washer through the dryer before I could use it. I would've likely chosen a different spot knowing that it was outside - I'm on the road a lot and this is a make or break for me unfortunately. Since I got in late, I had to do laundry in the pitch darkness in this dark shed with no lights. Bed was comfy but had some red sauce stains Walls are paper thin. I could hear the conversations of people in Unit A below me (which was expected in a shared house), but what was absolutely unbearable was the neighbors next door. Their dog was barking and howling upon my arrival (around 7-8pm), and did not stop yapping until around 1am. There was another dog in the neighborhood that was barking back at the little neighbor dog, which made it even louder. The owners were outside the entire time, occasionally telling the dog to "shut the %$&^ up". I typically sleep with earplugs but I had to sleep with headphones playing music and could still hear the barks when the songs came to an end. The dog finally stopped barking and I was able to fall asleep around 2am. I woke up at 6am to the dog barking again. Turned on the volume and tried to go back to sleep but the dog would not stop. It was still yapping when I left for work at 9am. I came back at 4pm and it was still barking. Getting less than 4 hours of sleep with 2 more nights to go, I took the loss and booked another hotel. It wasn't my place to confront the neighbors, nor did I feel comfortable doing so with the way they were speaking to the dog. Unfortunately this was out of control for the hosts, but this situation certainly ruined my experience. I explained to the hosts that I had to leave after the first night and they refunded me $100 out of $381.

"Superb"

9.0

Room, location, privacy, and cleanliness were excellent! Just a ⚠️ the ceiling is very low, so if you're over 6 ft tall, don't book this room.

There is no pet fee listed, so once the fee was decided and added to the room fee and the cleaning fee, my total fee of $204.88 was well over the listed $109.00 fee at booking. I agreed to the announced $49 cleaning fee (fair enough) before booking, but the unexpected (nowhere announced) $40 pet fee came after I was booked without a financially feasible cancellation option).

"Not good at all"

2.0

Nothing special

The height of the room was very low, poor my husband (190cm) had to bend his knees inside the room. If the owner mentioned about it, we wouldn’t book this room. Also it’s not an owner’s problem but there are couple of dog poops on the approach to the room. We almost stepped it.

"I liked this unit and appreciated the host's efforts to make the space welcoming and comfortable."

9.0

I liked this unit a lot. It was clear the owners went to lengths to help their guests feel welcome. It was clean and comfortable and I had what I needed.

I did not like the neighborhood. I felt a little unsafe being by myself outside. That said, no one bothered me. I did like how close it was to the convention center (my purpose of travel was for a conference) and how it was conveniently right by the bus line.
