'Marari Johns Homestay' Mararikulam, Alappuzha

The welcome was very good and the house owner was very helpful and sweet and and they always helped us. The room was very spacious and clean. Also they had a very good balcony to chill. The best place to stay.

Hi All. I'm a mature traveller with dozen’s of countries under my belt. This is my 5th trip to India and I had never bothered myself to leave long reviews before. But this time... We have booked a very inexpensive homestay just in the right distance from Marari beach centre, not too close to the noise but short walking distance, 100m from the sea. Upon arrival we were met by Amma like her own children who were silly enough not to visit her more often. When we went upstairs to the room my jaw dropped. The terrace for the only two rooms they rent out was the size of a tennis court with the wooden carved columns in Raja style. The rooms size was not modest ither, to say the least. The bathroom was the size of a garage with a big skylight above the shower. Huge kitchen next to the room. Plenty of parking space. Everything was exceptionally clean and looked like new. Even the soap bars were the size of my palm with the quality of 5 stars spa parlours. And then Mirash came back from work... Believe it or not, this guy can read your mind. I thought about a good massage and boat trip via the local canal next to the house, 5 min later he was already calling his friends bargaining for the better price and quality for my behalf. And basically his friends are pretty much the whole town. And then Amma has started to cook... How about garlic fried fresh fish French style, masala beef, all possible vegetarian choice for my girlfriend, steam coconut bowls for breakfast ..? I had nearly bitten my fingers off a couple of times during this orgy of tastes. How about home made -home grown passion fruit juice without even asking for it? How about cold beer ready for you just because you had one thought about it looking at the fried fish? Do you understand where i’m getting to? This place is addictive. You feel like you have a second family all of a sudden. Stay away from it. Because we are coming back for sure. P S.

Your holidays start to look very short all of a sudden. And cravings to get back to it are very painful.
