JOIVY Adorable flat near West End

While the flat had some charming character and very easy access to the tram and trains, the overall experience was sub par starting with the cleaner still being in the flat when we arrived at 3:15. He did not leave for another 40 minutes. The doorknob on the door to the sitting area came off in our hand, with sharp nails and splintered wood sticking out. The door knob on the master bedroom was very loose. The washing machine door did not close rendering it unusable. The sofa bed linens we PAID for did not include a duvet cover for the filler which was dingy and gross. While Edinburgh was lovely, this flat was anything but.

Location is close to the station.

When we arrived, on the very first night, we found a dead mouse in a mouse trap in a cupboard less then 1 meter from the bed which was very unpleasant. Seems like there were other mouse traps too so must be some sort of problem or infestation. As it was late in the evening was extremely uncomfortable to sleep near a dead mouse for the night.

Very spacious flat within walking distance of all the best places in the city. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The heating worked well and there was always plenty of hot water. Comfy beds. Awesome original shutters.

The sofa bed is good for a child.

A bit awkward to open the main door to the house once you had the keys out of the box. You had to ‘Jiggle’ the key in the lock to unlock the main doorway. Other than that all fab.

Great location - loved the high ceilings and large bedroom and living room which had a pull out couch for our daughter. We took the tram to the castle, but could have easily walked. Lots of small local restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, but still a quiet neighborhood. Living room had a large dining table that could also be used for office work. WiFi connection was stable. There is a washing machine in the kitchen which we used (they provided soap for two washes) and a dishwasher (we ate out so did not use the stove or the dishwasher)

There was no closet space to unpack if you're staying for more than a couple of nights (on the other hand, the bedroom was large so just living out of the suitcases was not an issue for us). Also, did not realize that we had to turn on the power for the boiler to get hot water for the shower. The refrigerator also needed to be turned on which we did not realize initially. This could be just because we are from US so not used to turning off power to outlets and appliances, but would have helped to have a note in the check-in email about that. We ran out of toilet paper and dish soap so had to run down to Tesco for supplies.

It is a good location, but we had trouble with the washer. The instruction manual was not adequate.

Spacious accommodation close to the city centre.

I rented this for my parents who were visiting Edinburgh. They absolutely loved the property. It's a well maintained and clean period building conveniently located for access into the city centre while being quiet enough to catch a good snooze. My parents said the bed was incredibly comfortable and they loved the shutters on the living room windows.
