"I want to come back!"

10.0

Big terrace, cosy place. Simple studio, but good atmosphere. I love birds, so sharing the terrace with pigeons was nice for me! Very comfortable bed. Reliable A/C. Perfect WiFi!

It was no big problem for me but some people might find the unrenovated status of the studio a bit uncomfortable. I liked the rough charme.

Nice location, in the heart of the Carmel market and Kerem HaTeimanim neighbourhood filled with traditional restaurants and lively bars. This is a positive but becomes a negative if you are a light sleeper, as the rooftop room (I refuse to call it an apartment, nor even a studio) is hardly soundproofed. The small bathroom was functional with the hot water working well. The bed is comfortable. Though the space issue means that it is in the corner and so there is no easy access from both sides. A positive is that there were no unpleasant smells, this is quite surprising when you consider the amount of dirt under the furniture. Also, the rooftop space outside the room is nice to have but should be better maintained and cleaned. There is a pile of dirty broken tiles and other materials in a corner near the door. The sofa cushions are left out in the rain, sun, and dust and so are in a bad state and in the event of rain they stay wet and cannot be used. Another part of the same roof is used to clutter unwanted furniture and materials. The host Miriam did give some short answers by whatsapp, but we never saw her. It is usually nice to have the human touch when renting a person’s property. All in all, we enjoyed our stay, but I would say that this was due to us staying out and away from the room most of the day and due to our taking the many issues in our stride and putting up with it all, so as to not let the dilapidated room ruin our week in Tel Aviv.

The room’s front door has at least a centimetre of space under and around it, through which the music and loud chatting from the local bars easily enter until long after midnight. If it were only a problem of sound coming in, I would hardly complain, but as you can imagine there are other things that crawl under badly fitted doors. Such as several slugs we found on the floor and wall inside the room, and the live cockroaches we found in the drawers which contained the kitchenware. Gladly the weather was good during the week we were there, as any drafts, heavy rain or chill would have come under the door, rendering the room impossible to live in. The room seems to be a plasterboard structure built on the flat roof of the house below, it is rather small, perhaps large enough to be a bedroom, but not enough space to also hold the kitchenette. There is not enough space to be able to do any real food preparation or cooking, and any eating must be done outside on the roof, or whilst sitting on the bed, as there is no space for a table indoors. The kitchen furniture and microwave have seen better days. The makeshift roof above the room was seemingly inhabited by nesting birds or cats, or other creatures who created disturbing noises by moving around or scratching on the roofing material while we tried to rest.

Property is well located, has nice terrace and comfortable bed.

The door is not appropriate for cold weather, too loud neighbourhood.
