"En plena zona de marcha"

4.0

"Very comfortable, beautifully decorated apartment in the heart of Chiado."

9.0

My wife and I were the first ones to stay at this beautifully renovated apartment in the heart of Chiado. Great location to explore some of the best parts of old, historic Lisbon. The apartment can comfortably sleep up to 4 people. There's a main bedroom with a queen bed and two smaller bedrooms with single beds. The building is old construction, but the apartment has been recently renovated, so it's an interesting blend of old bones and brand new upgrades. It has a well-equipped kitchen, if you like to cook, a beautiful living room and bedroom decor. It's spacious and has comfortable furniture. The apartment was very clean upon arrival. We needed some extra kitchen equipment for our home-cooked meals and the host, Maria, offered to buy them for us and had them promptly delivered. When we had trouble figuring out how to use the gas stovetop, the Maria took our call on WhatsApp and helped us turn on the gas below the stove area. When the power went out one day, Maria promptly helped us turn it back on. We needed to check-in early and Maria kindly accommodated our request. Maria's husband, Nuno, met us at the apartment when we arrived and was very helpful orienting us to the apartment. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this newly renovated apartment.

There is no binder with info on how to use the kitchen appliances or care for the apartment. That would be useful. The bathroom shower is small/tiny & has a shower curtain, rather than a glass door, so the shower curtain sometimes sticks to you when you turn around in the shower. It's really a tiny shower. A glass door for the shower would be a useful upgrade, if feasible. It's not a deal breaker, but be prepared for a small shower! The bathroom door that accesses the outdoor patio in the back of the apartment does not lock, so it's not a totally secure apartment, if that matters to you. A proper lock on that door would make the apartment more secure. At night and into the early morning hours until dawn, there is a considerable amount of daily street noise from patrons of the nearby bars and restaurants, so you'll need earplugs if you're a light sleeper. The kitchen sink drains VERY slowly, so that's a nuisance that needs to be fixed. The electrical system is old and has limited capacity, so when we turned on the clothes washing machine and the electric kettle at the same time, the power in the apartment short-circuited and went out. There are several flights of stairs that you will have to navigate to get up to the 2nd floor apartment. No elevator. The location of the apartment makes it a bit challenging to get a taxi/Uber/Bolt ride right outside of the apartment, so if you have a lot of luggage, beware....you'll have to haul your luggage to the nearest main street a block away down the hill to get a ride. Parking is definitely challenging in this area, so think twice about staying here if you have a car. There's minimal street parking available near the apartment and driving in this old, cobblestoned part of Chiado, with its narrow streets and blind corners, is not easy and takes nerves of steel. Honestly, you're better off without a car in Lisbon anyway, especially in Chiado.
