Iowa Nice, Winterset

Our host was a very nice lady. Was like going to stay with an aunt you haven't seen in a while. She did inform us that she might not be there when we arrived and the door was open. The price was good for a 1-night stay.

The ad is a bit deceiving. The "apartment" is in her basement, and she lives upstairs. There is no sperate entrance nor is there a door to her upstairs. My co traveler, found a spider in her bed the next morning as well. I hate to write this because she really is a great person.

Stairs were difficult to maneuver with suitcases.

Our host was a pleasant lady; she allowed us to check in at our convenience. My kids were glad to have their own room. The location was minutes from our thanksgiving gathering.

I felt bamboozled when we arrived to find out "apartment" was the basement of the home. Our kitchenette didn't have an oven nor stovetop which I should have noticed not being listed in the items for the kitchen. Probably should note the absence of these items. While we were grateful to have our own beds, the linens were soiled with hair and dirt from both humans and some animal - presumably dog. I have attached photographs. They appeared to have been recently slept in and not clean. Our host decided to have a snack of popcorn after 10pm, which filled the air in the basement with that odor. Perhaps a door at the bottom of the stairs would be beneficial to prevent odors from wafting. The addition of a door would also prevent the disruptive sounds of 3 barking dogs when the host gets guests before paid renters are ready for sounds. We paid for rest in a space we hoped would be restful but the linens, dogs, and smells made it less than ideal.

I had the whole basement. The shower was wonderful. Sue was so nice and helpful. She told me some places to visit. It was very quiet there and in town. I will stay here again when I visit at a later time.
