"Un’esperienza veramente autentica diversa dalle canoniche escursioni turistiche"

10.0

"Sentirsi a casa a Komodo"

10.0

"Very cool experience - would recommend only 2 days/1 night though"

9.0

I loved being able to explore the islands in the region at our own pace and away from the crowds. We did 2 nights with adventures on the first day on the way to Komodo and on the 2nd day, with a boat drop off to Le Pirate Island on the 3rd morning. Jeki is great at organising an itinerary (but with it being flexible) and at finding animals (found a manta ray from the boat and we quickly jumped in to snorkel with it). And he will organise someone else to be your guide if he has to work. It was great also getting 2 Komodo treks - in the national park (at 8am before any other tourist was on the island) as well as in the afternoon behind the village. The walk behind the village was one of the highlights from our whole Indonesia trip - we saw a huge Komodo Dragon near the village as well as a baby on a high rock. Walking through and seeing the village life was really cool. It was also great learning about the Komodo Dragons from Jeki like how the babies are born April/May and how the mating season starts in June (so less Komodos around then as they are in the hills). The guest room itself is comfortable and clean and by itself on the upper floor of the house. Luckily, the village cools down a bit at night - but there is a little fan in the bedroom. The verandah overlooking the water was actually why we chose this homestay over the others, and it was lovely to sit there and people watch and look at the view. Unfortunately, the water is quite dirty and especially at low tide there is a lot of rubbish, so that does detract from it a lot. Keep in mind that the boats that the villagers hire for guests are little and a bit slow (3hrs from Labuan Bajo to Komodo). They are comfortable to be in but they do feel the waves more and when we had some big waves behind Padar Island we were both pretty anxious. I like boats, so enjoyed everything, but my husband doesn't very much and he gets seasick.

- Bath towels are supplied in the room to shower but beach towels aren't. So if you'd like a beach towel, take your own. (Would be nice to lay down on pink beach and the wind on the boat when you're wet in your bikini can get a bit cold). - Keep in mind that you have to use the families bathroom downstairs which is a bit of a culture shock (have used squat toilets in many places but never stayed in accommodation with a squat toilet) and is a little bit uncomfortable going downstairs to find it busy as there is a lot of people for just 1 bathroom. Jeki is currently building a bathroom upstairs with a sitting toilet for the guest room though - when that's done, it will be a much more comfortable stay. - The mosque is really close and very loud - particularly the 4am prayer. Definitely pack earplugs, but even then if you're not a very deep sleeper it will wake you up (I could get back to sleep afterwards but my husband couldn't).

"Exceptional"

10.0

I gave 10 points. However you need to know that this place is very special, it is home, not pension or hotel. There the bathroom you share with family of host, ant it is downstairs, the rooms are upstairs. All the rest as comfy of beds, food, position with amazing view was perfect! Jeki, the host is also amazing guide, you can trust he will prepare for you a right and amzaing tips in area of Komodo.

"Amazing time, we would love to come back for more!"

10.0

Great way of getting an authentic experience! We booked a 2D1N private boat tour with Jeki, the host and had an amazing time! He took us to all the best spots that the short time allowed for and planned it so that we avoided the big crowds from the day trips. The homestay has a nice view over the harbor and Jekis wife cooked a simple but very nice dinner and breakfast for us. The homestay is generally very simple compared to western standards (shared bathroom with the family, simple shower and hole-in-the-floor toilet, mattress on the floor for sleeping), which was perfectly fine for us. Just don't go in expecting a luxurious hotel, you won't find that on Komodo island. The place was squeaky clean and we felt very welcome and would come back in a heartbeat!

Sadly Komodo village has a clearly visible waste management problem - lots of plastic floating around in the harbour and sewage goes right into the sea aswell - that's in no way the fault of the homestay, just something to be aware of. Also it's decidedly not suitable for handicapped people, if you're not ok with walking on small wooden pathways and steep stairs, it's not for you. Not a problem for us but it's something to be aware of.
