La Casita de Gabriel

La casita San Gabriel is quite comfortable and spacious, and has everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant stay. The owner is always attentive to your needs and willing to help if you have any questions. The San Gabriel Cottage is very close to the historic center.

The apartment is great. It was super clean. The owner is very helpful. Will definitely stay there again. The hot water is always available. In the sink you will get only cold water, but it's typical for the city.

The apartment was exactly as pictured in the photos. Super clean, beds were comfortable, showers had hot water, kitchen had enough plates/bowls for our group of 8. There is a little shop next door where you can get a lot of basics (coffee, eggs, bread, avocadoes, bananas, ramen, water) when you don't want to hike down to the bigger markets. The manager Aydee really went overboard to make sure we were comfortable, responding to every request and coming to the apartment multiple times to bring us extras. Replacement towels as often as we needed, extra dish soap, sugar, toilet paper, even two big jugs of drinking water on one day when the water service was unfortunately disconnected for some sort of construction work. She did our laundry, called us taxis, and helped us figure out which colectivo bus to take and from where. Amazing host!

Minor things that could be improved: for an apartment that sleeps 8, it would be good to have at least one large frying pan instead of three six-inch ones, and more than one kitchen knife. Each shower had hot water, but it only was hot if you kept the water pressure very low - if you want a higher-pressure shower, it will end up being fairly cold. The apartment was about a 15 minute walk from the downtown center, which was convenient. However, it is steeply downhill (and then entirely uphill with lots of steps coming back), so if you are older, have trouble with steps/hills, or are feeling bothered by the altitude, you may want to call taxis. I am in reasonably good shape, but when I did some grocery shopping down at a supermarket down in the center, the walk back up to the apartment carrying those bags felt pretty tough.

This was a great place to stay for long term visits to Cusco! Highly recommended for larger groups or families. There was plenty of space for us and it was comfortable. Lots of blankets on the beds to keep you warm during the colder Cusco nights. The host was communicative and made sure we had everything we needed when we asked. She was kind and friendly. There was coca tea and candies ready for us to help with the altitude sickness which was very nice. Wifi worked great and having the kitchen and two bathrooms was very handy. The property was clean and cozy. We really enjoyed our time here and were sad to leave! Thank you for everything :)

Minor inconveniences: - The property is a bit difficult to find and is located next to a daycare/nursery so it could be loud in the mornings during the week. - Had to ask a lot for extra toilet paper as there was only 2 rolls provided for us for the entire week and there was no hand soap in the bathrooms. - Hot water was hard to use at first but once we figured it out it was great.

They changed our rooms last minute after sending a confirmation the day before. We had to ask for towels. We didn’t actually stayed in the place I originally booked. Originally it was only supposed to be a 15 minute walk to the plaza when in reality it was upwards of a 45 minute walk. We were told they have multiple locations and switched us last minute even though I’ve had this booking for months we ended up staying in the hostal veras inn. We had an incredibly hard time finding the hotel, our taxi driver couldn’t even find the place and we had to call and talk to the front desk to find out where we were supposed to go because they did not tell us about the new location. The breakfast was only toast and jam/butter (which was not supposed to be included but since they had to switch our rooms from 3 to 2 and only took off 15 soles which is currently valued at 4 dollars, they included it). It was definitely not an apartment type hotel it was 2 separate rooms and had a “living room” (it was a couch and a tv that I’m not even sure worked, I know the ones in our rooms didn’t) but anyone from the outside was able to walk through. You had to rely on someone inside to let you in which lucky we didn’t have any problems with but it had me worried about staying out late. The doorbell that you had to ring to be let in was incredibly loud and could be heard from the rooms and woke us up multiple times through the night. There was also construction going on which started early and was incredibly loud. The walls are paper thin. The bathroom trashcan in one of the rooms was mostly full when we first got there and there were stains on the pillows. They turned the water off during the night which made flushing the toilet and washing your hands an inconvenience. Overall not a great experience but at least they had a place for us to sleep, luckily it was only for one night.

The contact with the owner was excellent and the response to our inquiries was prompt and to the point. The property is very clean. Close to the city center (Plaza de Armas). The kitchen was well equipped and with the help of the downstairs minimarket we could prepare our breakfast the way we liked. We had a rented car, which we parked in a spotless garage, on the bottom floor. Thanks again for your hospitality and friendship!!! If we come to Cusco again, we will let you know in advance ! We will recommend this place to all our friends.

Sometimes no water at night

The apartment was very clean and close to everything. It is 15 minutes walking from the plaza de armas. There is a bus stop close to it. It had everything we needed it. The host was super helpful and always ready to help.

It was a little noisy at times because of the neighbors. Also, make sure to reserve garage parking directly with the host.
