Finest Retreats - Westcote Cottage

Fantastic location, the cottage, the price, the heating, the shower pressure, the TV.

The mattress and duvet were atrocious, and the basic supplies could have been better, ie cooking frying pan, larger pan, pepper, coffee, etc. None of the above hindered the incredible location and the overall property.

Location was good.

We stayed at Westcote Cottage for 5 nights as part of a birthday break, and unfortunately the experience fell far below expectations. While the location itself is lovely and the property appears attractive at first glance, the condition of the cottage does not reflect how it is presented in the listing. There were numerous issues throughout the stay. The kettle was unusable due to rust, the back right ring on the cooker did not work, and several fixtures were broken or in poor condition, including the bath panel, loose bathroom tiles, damaged blinds, a faulty kitchen drawer, and a missing cupboard door knob. Basic kitchen items, such as a tin opener, were also not provided. Cleanliness was also below standard, particularly in the kitchen where surfaces and areas around stored items did not appear to have been properly cleaned. More concerning were the overall condition issues. There were clear signs of damp and water damage throughout the property, which had not been disclosed. Walls were in such poor condition that plaster residue would transfer onto clothing if brushed against. There were also visible defects including damaged flooring, lifting wallpaper on the ceiling, and chipped skirting boards. As someone with asthma, this made the stay particularly uncomfortable. We also experienced a noticeable presence of woodlice throughout the property, which added to the feeling that the property is not being properly maintained. From a safety perspective, it was concerning to find that the fire alarms did not appear to have working batteries, despite documentation stating these are regularly checked. In addition, the emergency torches provided were not functional, with corroded batteries suggesting they had not been maintained. Although the issues were reported and acknowledged, they could not be resolved during our stay, and the overall experience was significantly impacted.

Small but quaint/ quirky/warm/great views

Not that we didn't like it but it's on a steep hill and parking tricky. Good for the legs

Very basic but we liked the location.

The hosts (Finest Retreats) wanted to collect a lot of personal (some sensetive) information about each of the guests. Name, address, phone, date of birth. This had to be submitted off the booking.com website. I felt uncomfortable giving this level of detailed information to a third party. For this reason I won't book with them again.

Lovely, cute, cozy, perfect for my stay and great location!

Unfortunately didn’t have a few things that i was expecting like shower gel and hairdryer

the property could do with a bit of a refresh. the window in the lounge area, the glass unit had broken down so the view was obscured.The garden was very overgrown with weeds.
