OurMadeira - Fort of Old Town Apartments

Fantastic location, very clean.

No extractor fan in only bathroom or window so not good for ventilation.

Location was just what we wanted, we felt like part of the town (not tourist centre) and found access to everything so easy. Apartment was bright, spacious, clean and very comfortable.

More sockets in kitchen area would be good for use with the range of equipment provided.

The apartment is spacious and bright with a stunning view of the ocean. It is located in the historic Zona Velha with a great selection of bars, cafes and restaurants. This is a buzzing area and we love people watching from the balcony.

At first they were very easy to communicate with when things went wrong ie washing machine didn’t work and they fixed it. Location great. Apartment great overall for 3 adults. Nice to have a fridge and small freezer for ice. Dishwasher was handy. Incredible view from balcony. Taxis in Funchal very reasonably priced.

Would have appreciated prior warning of building works above us, but wasn’t too bad. Unclear where drop off and pick ups were from for extra paid shuttle to and from airport (said door to door but it wasn’t) and no communication re this when approached them on WhatsApp as had previously been doing fine. Had to pay data roaming to call them to get info after the shuttle didn’t arrive and were nearly late for airport. Also it promised to be cheaper than market rate but wasn’t (though still decent value) No Netflix as advertised on the tv. Would have liked code to key-safe before arrival as was very last minute.

The location is perfect. Lovely balcony overlooking the city, the fort, restaurants, people. Close to the sea for a morning swim.

Very noisy streets around the bedrooms. I had trouble sleeping because of this. And if we closed the windows it was too warm. Maybe thisnis to be expected in a downtown flat, and it was the only negative thing. I am also used to very quiet surroundings..

We had the top flat within the building - the sea view from the balcony is amazing. The flat is spacious, well equipped. There is enough storage space. The staff was helpful. The parking lot was free of charge for the entire stay - we only paid a deposit for the card to enter the car park which is located fairly nearby the flat, and to my surprise it was returned after we finished our stay. The location is very good - near one of the main restaurant streets but far enough from the very center so it is not very loud in the evenings. During our stay there was a scheduled towel change which was not only that, but also the flat has been nicely cleaned which was a nice touch.

The bathroom was smelly - the draining pipes were rather clogged, both sink and shower. There were damp spots on the bathroom walls, with paint raising due to it and the silicone finishes were moldy. The door handle to the main door of the building was almost falling off. The bedroom is dark and the bed is too soft - it was more comfy for me to sleep on the couch since it was less soft. Moreover, half of the building is currently in total renovation - not only there is scaffolding covering half of the building but there are loud construction works going on the entire day. The renovation team do respect working hours but they start early hence if you like to sleep long - it will annoy you. This is a major renovation hence I believe it shall last until end of 2024.

A couple minor issues with lights not working, leaky fridge and broken shower door just a little bit more care regarding maintenance needed but that didn’t detract from our stay in Funchal

The location.

No hot water, more tea towels, better utensils and chopping board in the kitchen. Better balcony furniture would be good. Bedroom ceiling light didn’t work. Hot water was really slow to come through in the bathroom but did eventually, possibly solar powered.
