The Mountain Apartment by An Island Apart

Lovely apartment, clean and modern. Air con a big bonus. Quiet despite the main road (could not hear the traffic). Nice view of park. Perfect to walk into the old town. Could not be better for that. Lots of local restaurants and bars around as well.

One shower overflows, but it was not a problem. Use the other one, or turn water off when soaping up

The shower flooded the complete bathroom so had to use the other bathroom

Getting access to the property was contact less. Received instructions via sms & email. Location was what we wanted.

The outside terrace floor was dirty and needed to be cleaned. The air conditioner remote controls needed new batteries which we helped replace.

The apartment is fairly compact but finished and equipped to a very high standard. Great shower, comfortable bed - and a wonderful balcony.

A minor point, but there is a lack of storage space for foodstuffs other than in the fridge.

Unfortunately the towels were not fresh and even dirty:((. My friends decided to wash them, I decided to buy new ones...

Met our host who handed keys over & took us up to the apartment at 4pm. Great central apartment for Funchal. Easy access to the center. Also the pick up for tours were outside the building, along with local buses. Apartment was well equipped with most things you need. If you leave early morning / late at the end of your stay & all the gates are closed & you've been asked to leave entry keys & card in the apartment - don't panic to think your locked in - there is a exit button by the bus stop end! (this wasn't explained by the host or information pack & not very visible - a slight panic at 7:30am!) - although I think the entry details that are emailed need to be updated as a few things have changed? Overall a great stay, very clean (apart from the huge rug & uncomfortable mattresses!) perfectly placed in Funchal.

The most uncomfortable beds, these were mentioned in a previous review & was hoping this was addressed as per their reply - this hasn't happened - so if you like a firm bed where your hips are on the hard base of the bed frame your sorted. (more like a thick mattress topper without the mattress) They also need to get rid of the rug in main room as needs a really good clean - but everything else was spotlessly clean also just a small thing - lack of washing up liquid? (as no dishwasher) - they provided a sponge & cloth along with tea-towels .. just a small basic but not something you want to buy a whole one for a weeks holiday. (however supermarket in the complex $$)

stains on rugs no dishwasher cheap mattresses no champagne glasses old worn towels no foil provided no cling film provided no coffee pods provided. Not even a bottle of water provided upon arrival. sheets on beds should be better quality for price paid. Apartment overpriced. Apartment looks better in pics than it actually was. I would not stay here again . We had a great holiday, but think carefully before booking here.
