Beautiful Guestroom to rent with a mountain view

The accommodation is located in the small town of Laugarvatn, right by the lake and within the Golden Circle area, which made it convenient for sightseeing. The café next door was charming, and the staff there were friendly and helpful. One highlight was the lovely dog at the café, who made the atmosphere even more welcoming. Thanks to the café staff, we were also able to arrange an early check-in, which we really appreciated. The room itself had potential and offered enough space for a short stay.

The bed was noticeably saggy and worn out, which impacted overall comfort. The room was not very clean upon arrival. It was also quite noisy. While the staff at the café next door were friendly and helpful, they were the only ones we could reach at all — messages sent via Booking.com remained unanswered for months, and the listed phone number led nowhere. This poor communication made it difficult to arrange anything before, during, or after the stay. The most serious issue, however, occurred during the night: after two quick showers, water flooded the entire bathroom due to a clogged drain, which, according to staff, had not been properly cleaned beforehand. It even started to seep slightly into the bedroom area. We had to mop everything up ourselves using the provided towels. As a result, the towels were no longer usable, and the bathroom remained wet and uncomfortable for the rest of the stay — we could only use it for brushing our teeth. Although someone came to check the next morning and admitted that the drain hadn’t been cleaned properly, I never received any reply to my follow-up emails. Had there been proper communication and a willingness to resolve the issue, this review would have probably turned out differently.

Unfortunately, this was the worst stay during our two-week round trip in Iceland. The room was extremely warm, and the only way to get fresh air was by opening the window — which let in a lot of midges. I ended up with more than 20 bites after just one night. The cleanliness was disappointing: the room wasn’t very clean, and even the bed sheets were dirty. The walls are very thin, and the door didn’t close properly, so when other guests returned at night, it felt like they were entering our room. Overall, the experience was not pleasant, and we would not choose to stay here again.

Location was great. Shower was also good and bed was comfortable.

The room was very hot and there is no way to ventilate without opening window. However it gets noisy outside because of proximity to the road. Also the walls are very thin and if your neighbors are loud like ours were, it can be disruptive. Especially when it's 2 am.

The room was overall nice, the little terrace is cute and I liked the parking spot right in front of the room. Bathroom was clean and checkin and checkout were both self done and smooth.

The biggest problem here were the biting midges and the warmth. So the room is incredibly hot and the only way to let some fresh air there is to let the doors open. But if you do so, hundreds of biting midges will come feast on you. I understand that the accommodation can't really eliminate either of those things but you would thing that being next to a lake, they would at least install some nets into the small window and the doors. Also the beds were incredibly soft which was not pleasant but that is a personal prefence thing.

The room is quite small for 2 big luggage and two people, but doable. It could use some deep cleaning. There was no shampoo or shower gel.

Difficult to find

The room is truly in a wonderful location! It has all the essential items (kettle, fridge), and nothing was missing for a short stay. Super :)

The Wi-Fi only worked for a few hours, then it just disappeared. There’s also a bit of a lack of cleanliness, but the situation is definitely not bad.

Great room and hosts :)

Very clean and cute, much nicer than in the pics. Felt like my own cabin instead of just a room. No complaints. Great location near the Fontana spa and roughly in the middle of the golden circle.

I had trouble finding the place but that’s probably on me. It’s the same building as the restaurant in case anyone else is wondering.
