Boston House is well situated near the town centre in Duns and next door to the Co-Op supermarket. It was in a handy location for Duns PlayFest. The house was clean and tidy when we arrived, but felt a little chilly (the thermostat is set to 17oC, but can be boosted to a higher temp if required). We felt comfortable and had a good nights sleep. All the basics are there such as a fridge with icebox, cooker, toaster, power shower, washing machine and small selection of basic kitchen equipment. The property was less expensive than others in the area and the property manager responds quickly, therefore we would stay here again if we required basic accommodation on a budget.

A few things could be improved. When we arrived there was a sad looking vase of half-dead tulips on the kitchen table; the tea/coffee/sugar jars were empty; and there was no milk as stated in the welcome message. There was no recycling bin in the kitchen. I brought my own food to cook, but had difficulty cutting veg and bread as the knives were as blunt as butter knives. The TV aerial was plugged in but wasn’t working, however there was a Roku stick for streaming. The Dolce Gousto coffee machine didn’t seem to work (it was spurting water out horizontally), but that may just have been due to the wrong coffee pods. There is a steep internal staircase which provides access to both bedrooms with a handrail on one side that extends 2/3 of the way up the stairs. Therefore, the property is not suitable for anyone with accessibility requirements. However, safety and accessibility could be improved by adding a full length handrail to the stair wall; and a shower stool would be handy. In the bathroom the light was flickering when switched on; there was no bin liner in the bin; and the shower holder rail was mounted too high on the wall to be fully accessible. The interior design is very basic with the most basic furnishings such as polyester bedding, and without any homely touches like throw cushions, rugs or wall art which could elevate the feel of the property.

On arrival it was cold and the temperature on the thermostat was 15 degrees, so had to contact the owner to increase the temperature as it was done remotely. No tv channels worked at all so I had to retune the TV and then was only able to get BBC Channels. Contacted host who said she'd ordered a firestick and asked if she had permission to enter the house to install which we agreed to. However, we never heard from the host again and there was no effort to contact us or to explain why she hadn't fitted the firestick. We also noted previous guests had commented the same problem regarding only 4 tv channels! There were no books, toys or games so thankfully we'd come away without the kids otherwise there would have been nothing to entertain them with on an evening. Decore and furnishing dated and in need of renovating. Overall very disappointing.

The accommodation was poorly/ cheaply set up ...... secondhand furnishing not for for purpose, also, broken and falling apart furnishings. TV not working properly. Fire not working properly. Dining and cookware old and lacking. Read other reviews carefully and you will find similar experiences recorded and not attended to by the owners. I have stayed in accommodation via booking.com in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain .... this was by far the worst and least value for money.
