"Beautiful gem"

9.0

The peaceful views are amazing. The place was super clean and new, a fresh interior and everything worked perfectly. Great water pressure and hot water anytime of day/night. Airconditioners in each room, black out blinds, coffee machine, comfy beds, hair dryer, fast wifi etc. Alessandro and his mum are very hospitable and ready to help anytime. The place is built on the natural rock and hosts the museum of the water and flour mill itself since its the family's tradition for the past 4 generations. During our stay Alessandro gave us a private tour of the history of their mill which is very interesting and animated in many languages for all to see and understand as you walk from one cave room to another. Your private terrace, the sound of the birds and the surrounding views is the best thing. Also, it's nice that you can park right outside - no hassle. :)

Since it's in the beautiful countryside there aren't shops/amenities close by so if you need something you need to drive a few minutes away, but that's the price to pay for enjoying and living in the countryside. The place has a great coffee machine but doesn't have a kettle and a toaster for those who are used to using them. Other than that, it has a fully-equipped kitchen including a microwave, oven, hob etc with everything new and super clean. There currently are high steps cut into the rock to access the apartment through the beautiful garden so its not ideal for the elderly/ anyone with impaired mobility but the family are in the process of starting an easy-access directly from the parking lot in the coming months.

The apartment is brand new, very clean and in a beautiful setting. The hosts are friendly and extremely accommodating. The apartment contains anything that one might need during a stay: washing machine, oven, microwave, iron, etc. The WiFi connection in the apartment was also very reliable.

Access to the apartment is via a staircase which is quite narrow at some points, however the owners are well aware of this issue and are working to resolve it in the short term. They also offered to help with the luggage up to the apartment.

"Superb host and excellent facilities - fabulous Sicilian hospitality"

10.0

Casa Agave is perched above Cava Ispica, an archaeological area and a stunning small gorge. The building is brand new but built in the style of a typical Sicilian barn. Host Alessandro has thought of every detail and the accommodation is superbly equipped and extremely comfortable with aircon throughout and a full kitchen with dishwasher (and washing machine!). The satellite wifi is excellent. Alessandro and his mother are attentive and discreet and happy to show you around their water mill museum which is a feature of their farm property. We were a party of three, and found Casa Agave plenty spacious enough. We will most certainly return as the location is a convenient base from which to tour the Baroque cities of southeast Sicily as well as the coast and nature reserves. Finally, if you find the cats waiting for you on Casa Agave's patio, they are very friendly, and welcome a tidbit.

Casa Agave is excellent, and if we had to make a small comment the only few things to mention are that access to the property's private road is on a bend, and requires care to enter and exit but you get used to it - and to listening for traffic. The small, but main road nearby can be a bit busy at certain times of day but Casa Agave has double glazing throughout so traffic noise is mitigated. There are a good few steps to the property, but Alessandro is on hand to help with baggage. He has plans to install a lift in the future. On the plus side, the steps do mean you get the view and a fresh breeze at night perched on the hilltop.
