The Mill House

Access to buses great. Due to hard flooring and fire doors with self closers unfortunately, quite noisy within the building. Not all occupants remembered the 10pm 'quiet'. As rooms are only ventilation from one small windows overheating when room faces sun could be problematic. No formal reception so must check in between 3-5:30pm otherwise there will be delays getting to your room.

The price is not worth the issues.

Well it is student accom so I didn’t expect much but it was actually much better than the reviews. Clean, comfortable, lots of storage, and check in was easy. Bus ride from the city and useful. Only negatives were 1. No bin and you are supposed to take your rubbish outside 2. No kettle and no way of obtaining a hot drink 3. The shower, tho fine, didn’t drain properly. But all in all was a useful place to stay and a better price than most during the Fringe

First up the good about this place. The check in with Ryan was very smooth at 15:00. I went to my room, found it, found that my blackout blind would go down but not up and that I had no toilet roll. So I go downstairs and tell Ryan, he tells me to message the management, so I did. This went ignored, so I have had a broken blackout blind all holiday. My friend gave me a toilet roll as she had multiple (thankfully). The room is mostly functional, beds ok,.not great but I wasn't expecting great for the price point. Even when you sent me then "are you ok" message after the three I had sent you and you had ignored I still didn't get a response so one star for communications too. Bathroom shower plug was mostly blocked which let the water out at a snails pace.which is why you have one star for cleanliness. So yeah other than that, if you can work through the defects in the room and it's lack of cleanliness you can have a realitivly comfortable stay here which is Why I give this place two stars.

Bed was super uncomfortable; felt like I was sleeping downhill. Had to attach the blind to the frame as it was lying on the window sill. Property advertises WiFi but don't tell you what the WiFi network or password is and they don't answer messages to provide it. Not worth the money and almost criminal they raise the prices the way they do simply because there was a concert in town.

Usually I would agree with ‘you get what you pay for’ but in this case, I didn’t even get that. When I checked in I found out that despite it being advertised, guests cannot access the communal kitchen so that instantly increased how much I’d be paying on take away and restaurants. The bed had hair in it. The floor hadn’t been hoovered in what looked like months. The shower didn’t drain. The sink didn’t drain. I was given one roll of toilet roll for 8 days. There was no cleaning daily or at all during my stay. The door was broken. The lock on the door didn’t work. The communication from Mill House was non existent. When I rang I was told to email, my emails went unanswered. Thankfully, though they’re not meant to be involved, the staff working for the student halls addressed the hinge on the door, replaced the batteries in the lock and fixed the drains. I borrowed their Hoover to clean the floor in my room. I fully realise that this was an affordable option for the Fringe but the basics should be addressed and the communication was shocking.

Perfect for my one night stay while watching Oasis. Comfy bed, secure and safe for a solo traveller and clean and tidy.

Bed was comfortable. Reception pleasant. Lift good. Bus service excellent Limited dining options.

Don't stay here. False advertisment. It says there is a shared kitchen but reality guests are not given access to the kitchen. I talked to the managers and they refused to rectify the situation. The hallways have trash and dirt. The mattress as horrible. The drains need to be snaked. The good things inckude solid internet and access to buses. The park nearby is lovely. If you are looking for something similar, Edinburgh College Residence is much better.

The stay was generally good. However, the ppwer sockets didnt work. Had to find the fusebox in the kitchen/ communal room to reset the circuit breaker. Coincidentally, this reset the hallway lights and the kitchen lights. Contradictory to electrical and building regulations. Good job i got to the kitchen because the next day it was deemed out of bounds.
