Rethymno Blue

Obwohl wir sehr spät am Abend ankamen, hat uns Manolis persönlich begrüßt und uns alles gezeigt, auch während unseres Aufenthaltes hat er uns immer wieder nützliche Infos zu Essen und Aktivitäten in Rethymno geschickt und er war wirklich nett. Das Appartement selbst ist sehr geräumig, man hat viel Platz. Auch die Lage war super, zu Fuß ist man in 10 Minuten in der Altstadt, doch rund um das Appartement war es ruhig. Die Dachterrasse mit Blick auf Rethymno und das Meer ist ein weiteres Highlight, wir haben dort jeden Tag gefrühstückt, auch zum Wäsche aufhängen war sie sehr praktisch. Das Appartement war sehr sauber und wir hatten alles, was wir brauchten (Handtücher, Duschgel, Kaffeemaschine etc.).

Ein wenig störend war der durchdringende Kanalgeruch im Badezimmer vor allem in der Früh und am Abend. Das Doppelbett war recht hart und der Wasserdruck in der Dusche war sehr niedrig, was die Haarwäsche bei langen Haaren ein wenig herausfordernd macht.

Emplacement fabuleux avec vue splendide sur la ville. Accueil chaleureux du propriétaire. Appartement spacieux et bien équipé. Lits confortables. A 10 minutes du centre historique à pied. Plusieurs petits commerces à proximité et une bonne pizzeria.

The apartment is fairly large, the beds are really comfortable, there is only a sigle AC unit in the whole apartment (in the middle room), but after a certain amount of time the other rooms can also cool down. It was also quiet during the night. The two balconies were certainly a plus - the front one for the view and the back one for the shadow it provided during the day. The location is quite close to the old center and about 1 km from the beach, about 15 min at a relaxed walking pace.

We booked the apartment partly for the front terrace, but there was no umbrella or shade provided; it was unusable from sunrise till sunset due to extreme heat. We ended up staying inside, to cool down, but the landlord scolded us for using the AC too much, saying electricity is very expensive in Greece. After researching and doing the math, I explained him the bill for our usage was minimal compared to the high amount we paid for the booking. The apartment is not equipped for families who cook. The “kitchen sink” is in the bathroom, separated from the toilet only by a wooden mobile panel (see attached picture). This setup was neither comfortable nor hygienic. There’s no proper table for cooking or eating, and the space is crowded with the owner’s objects, so we had to juggle for room. The electrical system is set up so that when consumption exceeds a certain threshold, the circuit breakers automatically trip. But the threshold is set so low that even with absolutely everything else turned off — except for the two electric stove burners the breakers still trip. On day 3, a cleaning lady was scheduled for 5 o’clock. Later that day, the landlord accused us rudely of keeping the apartment dirty (as there were unwashed dishes left from the noon till 5 o’clock, on the day of cleaning!). He even opened an incident on booking.com without a notification to us or talking to us. When I invited him to discuss, he just said “No.” We were told the crumbs brought ants (on the 5th floor!) that would destroy the apartment. But we had seen ants from day 1 — near the floor drain, bathtub, living room, and balcony. This “cleaning service” felt more like a trojan horse. When we left the apartment (after 2 weeks), he thanked us, quote: "We have to say THANK YOU for taking care of our apartment in maximum" and apologised from his prior behaviour. Never encountered anything like this in tens of previous bookings.

Very comfortable and convenient apartment close to everything. Beautiful balconies on two sides. We would recommend.

Uns hat einfach alles gefallen!! Die Wohnung ist sehr geräumig; sehr schön eingerichtet und wirklich mit allem ausgestattet, was man brauchen könnte!! Sie ist perfekt gelegen, mitten in Rethymno Stadt und die Altstadt ist fußläufig erreichbar. Die Terrasse mit der Aussicht war ein mega plus!! Und es gab noch auf der anderen Seite zu den Schlafzimmern auch ein sehr langer Balkon! Außerdem hatte das Apartment ein Privatparklatz, was man in Rethymno City nicht unterschätzen sollte!! Wir waren sehr begeistert! Und haben uns wirklich wie zu Hause gefühlt!! Wir denken sogar, die Wohnung ist viel gemütlicher, als auf den Fotos zu sehen! Und ein extra Pluspunkt sind die bequemen Betten!! Manolis und seine Frau sind sehr freundliche sympathische und hilfsbereite Gastgeber!! Wir können diese Unterkunft mit bestem Gewissen empfehlen!! Und werden ganz sicher bei unserem nächsten Kretaurlaub wieder hier buchen!! Manolis vielen Dank für alles!!

Es gibt nichts zu bemängeln!!

Todo, sobre todo la ubicación es la mejor de Rethymno y de la isla, accesible a todo a pie y en coche a lo mejor de la isla. El apartamento era precioso, muy limpio y con una terraza increíble. Manolis es muy acogedor.

Faltaban algunas cosas

We stayed at Rethymno Blue as a family of four (two adults and two small children), and it truly exceeded all our expectations. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, air-conditioned, and extremely well-equipped – it even has a washing machine, which was so convenient for traveling with kids. One of the absolute highlights is the terrace with a stunning view, perfect for relaxing in the morning or after a day out. The location is fantastic – just a short walk from the Old Town of Rethymno, which is full of charm, history, and great places to eat. There’s also private parking, which made everything easier, especially for day trips to the many breathtaking beaches in the area. Rethymno itself is a real jewel of Crete, and it's perfectly located to explore the island. A special mention goes to Manolis and his wife, who are the perfect hosts – kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel right at home. We can't recommend this place highly enough – whether you're a family or a couple, Rethymno Blue is the ideal base for a memorable stay in Crete. We'll definitely be back!
