"Amazing beach, staff, and island"

8.0

We stayed at the Mia Reef on Isla Mujeres from 2/28/26 - 3/7/26. It was our first time there and we vacationed with another couple who was also there for the first time. We loved it! Our favorite things, in order were (1) the beach/ocean, (2) the staff, and (3) the island. The walk-in beach is small but amazing. The colors of the water are incredible. You can walk out into the ocean a long ways and can even walk over to the main Island and the playa norte beach. There is decent snorkeling in the cove beyond the bridge, and many tour boats stop and snorkel in that area. The beach staff keeps the beach clean and free of seaweed and will bring you an umbrella if you want shade. The staff bring drinks to you an the beach and even in the ocean. Speaking of the staff, everyone was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They went out of their way to meet your requests and anticipate your needs. They would remember your orders and preferences and have things ready for you when they saw you coming. A few staff members that stood out were: JC who served the beach area and sometimes the pool and bar area. He was awesome, engaging, funny, and very attentive. He would even bring our drinks to us in the ocean! Another was Jerry who was a waiter in the buffet and bar areas. He was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating and would get special drinks for you to surprise you. The food was good at the buffet and the specialty restaurants. Our favorite was the Grill, but the Mexican restaurant was good too (the chocolate mousse was AMAZING). We didn't eat at the Italian restaurant as that cost additional money. The buffet was good with tons of variety and selections including the grill where you can get food made to order. There were different theme nights too. The bar snack area had hamburgers, hotdogs, and awesome french fries. The Cevicheria was also amazing for lunch with fish and tuna tacos and ceviche. The bars and drinks were good with a few top end bottles available only to club members. The Mia Club membership is something that is pushed by the sales staff but we politely said we weren't interested and they left us alone. Not sure what it costs how it works, or what it includes. The rooms and beds were OK especially after we requested a foam mattress topper. The A/C kept the room cool. The island is awesome. It's much more friendly and laid back than Cancun and easy to get around. We always felt safe there.

"Really Wanted to Like This Place...But..."

6.0

Let's start with the good: Mia Reef has beautiful ocean views! The Honeymoon Suite has 2 balconies so you can see the sunrise and sunset (but the cloudiness kind of blew that for us). It still was nice to see the shallow bay and the open ocean off corresponding balconies. The servers were very nice. The food was fine, decent options, we had few complaints (except for Asian night - was like truck stop Asian food, also the hamburgers were awful). The food was pretty Americanized - we would've preferred some more traditional Mexican food. The "Snorkel Area" was a pleasant surprise - we got up early before the crowds came and saw some cool rays, barracudas (under the bridge), puffers, schools of fish - nice for beginner to intermediate snorkelers (too crowded/cloudy rest of time) The bad, well the weather isn't the hotel's fault, but I suggest not going in March - it was cool/windy half the days we were there. First off, take a cab from the ferry - its a long walk! We got there a few hours early and they wouldn't let us have the room even a few minutes early - usually hotels will accommodate you as soon as the room is clean - disappointing! The sales staff will accost you many times trying to get you to buy some kind of rewards thing. The building and plants were not in the best shape. I thought it said top-shelf alcohol but you have to have a black wristband for that? The pool is small, but who needs a pool when you are surrounded by ocean? Pool was not heated - nice to cool off in but too cool to hang out in (in March). I would not suggest this resort for quiet nature-lovers like us - the beach was way too crowded. They say less sargassum there than other areas, but it's there. Once the annoying crowds descended, we left for the quieter pool area. The King's Pool was interesting for about 5 minutes, tiny pretty fish in there but nothing great. We did not see any terns nesting, just seagulls & pelicans hanging out. We didn't watch most of the entertainment, but saw a classic rock band one day that was ok - also could hear a rock band across the bridge if you walk over to downtown area. Prepare for everything to be super expensive in town - we were shocked buying souvenirs (over $300?). We did not try renting a golf cart because of the congestion in the streets - looked like more of a headache than fun. The room was small but adequate, seemed to get kind of damp smelling from wet swimsuits etc. Because its on its own island, they do not want you to flush your toilet paper - kinda gross? The very worst clincher for me, was I got the Honeymoon Suite for the jacuzzi and it had NO HOT WATER. Even WARM water would've been acceptable - so disappointing! We tried leaving it full in the sun all day before getting in but it was not very pleasant in the cool water in March. It was ok, but our worst vacation to date. Can't win them all I guess.

"Great staff, deceptive marketing on Priceline Sales site."

6.0

I loved the staff!! JC was above and beyond. I was disappointed in my accommodations. I was sold on Priceline a 2 double bed room with an ocean view. This was not what I received.

"Our stay at MIA Reef"

8.0

The good - the beach, the island town (location), the customer service (J C was awesome on the beach!) , atmosphere, the food, cleanliness. The not so good - lack of hot water in the room. The building itself is old and in need of upgrading (it seems like upgrades are in progress). Timeshare presentation.
