I booked 3 rooms for my family of 5 under my name. Upon arrival the front desk officer requested my passport. My son who usually translates Japanese for me, immediately informed him that we are residents in japan. However i was surprised when he asked for all our IDs and photocopied them. I complied without protest. Adding to the discomfort, he handed over only 1 room key stating that he needed to see all my family members before releasing the remaining 2 keys. The next day i decided to confront and verify whether this was a new policy. Unfortunately He was off duty and we were informed that it was not an official policy but merely a verification procedure. We were also told that the photocopied IDs would be shredded. I felt frustrated and disappointed by the unfair treatment of the employee that seemed unaware of how to handle the customers properly.
