Pronoia Casa de Playa

The idea of the place is great. It definitely has more of a hostel feel than hotel or resort like it’s being advertised.

The room wasn’t as clean as it could be. There were hairs in the shower and toilet. The floor left our feet dirty. It seems like volunteers are the ones handling the cleaning around the property and it’s not being done properly. We had to call maintenance to have the shower worked on because the drain wasn’t working. The sink faucet needed work and wouldn’t shut off. The seaweed and trash on the beach are so bad and no one is trying to do anything about it. The rotting seaweed smell made it very hard to enjoy being there. I know it’s not the hotels fault that the seaweed is coming, but the entire area has very filthy beaches. The beaches near Mahahual village are much better but they are 45 minutes from the hotel. We walked miles down the beach, trying to find a clean place to enjoy and never found it. And it’s not just seaweed, sadly it’s trash. The price is definitely way too expensive for what we got. We couldn’t even use the place because we couldn’t get to the beach from the trash and seaweed. Every other place I have stayed this time of year makes some attempt to clean their own area for the guests who are paying for a beach front place. Especially at $60 a night. This is the price I pay to stay in luxury hotels in Mexico. There weren’t even hand towels for the bathroom. Only 2 old bath towels left for 2 ppl. The rooms are as basic as you can get. A bed, a tiny desk, and a fan. That’s it. No rugs to wipe sand from your feet. No chairs to sit in. I Imagine it’s probably better whenever the seaweed isn’t bad. Also, I wouldn’t be as disappointed if the price reflected the amenities. The managers should be reaching out to anyone who books and letting them know what the place is like right now and that the beach is unusable, because it’s definitely not what you’re expecting upon arrival.

It's not Pronoia's fault, but the weather wasn't good, there was a lot of seaweed and plastic trash on the beach that prevented entering the water.

If your looking for a place to unwind and relax With great hosts this is an ideal Location and friendly hosts. BBQ was AMAZING :)

Beautiful, private location on the ocean. Our accommodation was on the beach with an amazing breeze to keep us cool. Oskar made us feel so welcome and was an excellent and thoughtful host. A highlight was a delicious barbecue dinner that the staff cooked and served at an outdoor communal table. The stars were spectacular!

I think this is not a place for everyone. If you are into "all inclusive" hotels in Cancun, this probably is not the place for you. If you can enjoy a "place out of this world", with a paradise beach right outside your window, coconuts picked by yourself and a calm and relaxed atmosphere - it is hard to find a better place. Very friendly and helpful staff, tasty food served on site (fish tacos!!). Clean sheets and towels (contrary to some comments). 10/10 from me, I would like to go back there someday...

There is usually no hot water in the bathroom, but who cares about that in the Caribbean?

Staff (volunteers) were friendly and nice. Guests were nice too. It is a very quiet and nice place to be away from the touristy areas. The beach was nice and well maintained.

We couldn't sleep for both nights we stayed in. Beds are horrible. The room was super dirty, where walls and curtains had blood stains from people killing mosquitoes. Windows were in horrible shape (leaking rainwater). No AC and only one fan - so it was clearly a struggle sleeping under the heat (that's beside the uncomfortable bed). We were looking for a minimum comfort, but it wasn't what we found. PS: pics are too good for the state of the place.

Amazing location right on the beautiful beach , we could do a bbq there and climb on the roof to see the stars

Nothing really, being selfish we hope it doesn’t get too popular or we may not be able to afford it!
