"Great location, nice staff but disappointing room facilities"

4.0

Staff was very friendly

The room was extremely dated, all fixtures half broken (bed headboards, door lock, light above mirror in the bathroom..)

"Friendly and great value."

8.0

Lovely traditional friendly pub with guest rooms. Great food. The room was clean and pleasant and good value for the money. Staff and management were very welcoming.

Room 2 bathroom was a little too small. Difficult to wash / clean teeth etc in the very small sink.

"The perfect overnight stay to break up a long drive with friendly and welcoming staff."

10.0

The staff were absolutely amazing! Kerry was so friendly and accommodating, we couldn’t have asked for more. The room was comfortable and clean. Ideal for an over night stay to break up a long drive. Everyone in the pub was friendly and welcoming. Well priced drinks and lovely food.

"A bit like going back in time although that's not all a bad thing."

5.0

The location is beautiful although quite remote. In general the the staff were very helpful and enthusiastic. We liked the Portuguese chef in particular. His Chafana was a real treat when we ate in the restaurant and he was very attentive at breakfast time in making sure we had whatever cooked breakfast we wanted. Some very lovely walking around the area if that's your thing. We were there primarily for a wedding in the next town, Bishop's Castle, so had few opportunities to explore around the area much but did walk up to the Hall behind the pub and the scenery and lake are stunning.

The rooms are very basic in facility and very dated. One could call it quant but not being able to get hot water to the sink for a shave is a pretty basic need. I had to resort to either boiling a kettle (this tripped a circuit breaker on one occasion) or swing over the shower outlet to fill the sink. The room was poorly lit where the dressing table is and there was no chair paired with it which for my wife made getting made up for the wedding difficult. There is WiFi but we could just pick it up in our room and our friends not at all in theirs. It is pretty basic basic accomodation but I guess you will pay more for better. This is not the fault of the Powys Arms but be warned a taxi service in the area is non existent. We had hoped to get a taxi to Bishop's Castle (3 miles away) and back on the wedding day but there was no chance so one of our party had to drive and be the nominated driver which was a shame
