"Strange experience in a secluded villa, horror or at least thriller-vibes but overall exciting ;-)"

4.0

This was the strangest stay we have ever had in our lives. Neither the villa nor its owner-host were physically and mentally ready to welcome guests at the moment we arrived. The villa itself is a beautiful, large and tranquil (we were the first and only guests) property set in a lush garden. The room was big. The price for the stay was very low. The bathroom looked very nice, at least on the pictures. Chilling in the pool was a nice experience, with the quietness and surrounding garden on the one side and the historic villa on the other. However, the Madam's (owner-hoset and the sole resident of the villa) quiet wandering around the property while we were in the pool and her constant presence we therefore felt, made it a little bit strange.

To sum up the experience, we didn't feel wanted there, didn't feel like guests. Maybe not intruders but definitely like some kind of squatters. There were no toiletries, not even paper towel and soap in the room. Not to mention towels - finally we didn't get them since the only available were the owner's personal ones (finally, after being pressed about the issue she offered them but since we brought one travel towel with us I declined the offer). The bed had no sheets to cover yourself. There was no a single lamp in the room. No water, tea or coffee. There was no hot water; we traveled with a baby who isn't comfortable taking cold showers even in the tropics. The sink has a serious drainage problem. The faucet's handle randomly comes off with a little bit of pressure. It was clearly not installed properly. The bathtub was out of order. Why do you advertise the room, mentioning it has a bathtub when its not working? The mosquitoes were eating us alive and we had a repellent liquid vaporizer installed! (it was ours, of course) and sprayed ourselves with Mugga. There are so many places where they can enter the room and the windows don't close enough to prevent them from coming in. There is a mosquito net over the bed but when the ceiling fan (located right over it) is working, it makes the net to wave, creating a way for the vampires to come. There is no AC in the room so you have to use the fan. The Sri Lankan-style breakfast was less than modest, very disappointing. We were not offered any water, bottled or sourced from a tank. I believe there is a source of it in the house but we were not showed it and invited to use it, like EVERYWHERE else during our stay in SL. We were not given access to the kitchen, to the fridge. Madam locked the door to the main part of the villa for the night in front of my nose after graciously taking our two bottles of soft drinks to store and cool them in the fridge.
