Vila Marachique Torralvor

The villa itself was newly renovated, very clean, tastefully decorated and extremely well-equipped. There are large communal sitting areas. We were 7 adults (initially) and 2 toddlers so the number of bedrooms and bathrooms was ideal. There was even a playroom. A lot of the flooring and the stairs were wooden which was more forgiving for the children. The 2 cots and high chairs supplied were of good quality. The garage was huge. The outside space was good but because of the steps we couldn’t really use it in a relaxed way because of the toddlers. No problem for adults. There was a large Intermarche supermarket across the road and a couple of good restaurants. The lovely beach was 20 minutes walk away, the harbour restaurants a bit longer. If walking or time is a problem, Uber is very quick and very cheap to use. The communal pool area was fantastic. We went the second week of October and it closes at the end of the month for winter. Because it was so quiet the on-site cafe closed early on 15th but we got a good end of season price so can’t complain. I imagine it’s very busy in high season.

It would be useful to have an information leaflet. For example, you need to take your own umbrellas to the pool area and there are 3 in the garage. Also, there were many switches in each room that seemed to have no function. We couldn’t use the balconies because they weren’t totally safe for climbing toddlers and they overlooked the fairly busy road. No smoke alarms or CO detectors which seems to be common in Portugal.

The door lock was broken in the kitchen, the apartment wasn’t clean on arrival, the gas on the hob didn’t work, the shower dead was broken, the water was running down the shower head and causing the bathroom to flood when having a shower. Also the table and chairs on the main balcony were old and rusty and the drying rack for the clothes was broken.
