The Old Smithy

Lovely qwerty cottage, we didn’t cook much but seemed to have everything needed. Comfortable beds good showers. Location was ok, there is a pay car-park next to it, note if you have a disabled badge you get 8 hours free and over night 6pm to 8am is also free so we used that. The owner was contactable and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Only fault no wardrobes or place to hang clothes

John couldn't have been more helpful and although we were a very late booking due to the incompetence of Booking.com, he helped us and checked on us that we were all ok and that we had all we needed.

No sharp knives and one TV didn't work. Also, parking is an issue and an expensive one!

Spacious and comfortable accommodation in a convenient location. The host was very helpful and easy to communicate with.

Some written instructions for use of the microwave and televisions would have been helpful.

Great location, comfortable, very clean and well equipped. Very comfortable beds and a nice outdoor area to sit, weather permitting. Host kindly left basic provisions; tea, coffee, milk etc and the bottle of wine was much appreciated! A Tesco express across road for anything else. There’s a car park literally next door - first hour free and £2 overnight charge (6pm-8am)

Not really a criticism but as per a previous review, for a longer stay may be nice to have some kind of rail for hanging clothes. Privacy film on toilet window would also be helpful. A personal preference for us would be to have tv in sitting room rather than bedroom, but again, not a deal breaker!

Great location, very comfortable

The property is decent and good for a weekend stay. The host provided milk , coffee , tea , sugar and bottle of wine.

The common bathroom door has a glass which just beats the purpose of having a door at the first place. There were nails sticking out on the 1st floor room which can hurt anyone walking around bare foot. The expectation from the host that we would clean every damn thing so that he doesn't have to do even the basic cleaning but was surprising. These rules ain't mentioned anywhere even though we cleaned all the dishes and kept them to dry. The host was expecting them to be dried and kept at the place where they are suppose to be. Edit : We did not overlook the fact that children weren't allowed else we wouldn't have booked your place at the 1st place . And why would you assume that we would book your place again when we aren't welcome there ? For the sake of respect I gave your property a 7 rating but I am now updating it to 5 because you are living in denial about the things that were wrong at the property and do not wish to address the issues.

The property was very big and was very comfortable. it is very well located in Ventnor town centre, very close to the shops and only a 5 - 7 minute walk to the sea front. The welcome items (milk, biscuits and Wine) were much appreciated, thank you).

These are not major issues that we didn't like, as such, but as we guessed that this was a newly finished holiday let, we have the following, (hopefully helpful) comments, for the owner to address. Unfortunately, we had difficulty in tuning in the TVs to pick up the channels. We also thought that the ground floor bathroom door could do with an opaque film over the clear glass door panel to give the occupant privacy, and either a chest of drawers or small wardrobe would be helpful in both bedrooms, where our cloths could be put away, rather than having to put them on the floor or leave in our bags, but otherwise everything else was very nice.

This cottage was amazing. It was spotless very clean with fabulous furniture and new carpets. Warm and cozy. Great Showers. The shops just outside which was Great. John was very helpful. We would definitely like to go back very soon. A real Gem of a place. The furniture was fantastic quality too. Anyone staying there will love it!!! Wonderful I would say it is worth 10 Stars!!!
