Old Water View

Our stay was brilliant. Our hosts could not have been more helpful, friendly and accommodating, we were able to request sandwiches for our lunches. The property was very homely and clean. Loved the lounges and the breakfast room. The honesty bar was very unique and so nice to have as you did not feel you needed to stay out to have drink especially after a long day walking. Drying room facilities were excellent and well used as weather was very wet! Our breakfast was excellent too.

Gorgeous bnb located in a great location, for anyone wanting to explore ullswater or walking helvellyn and surrounding peaks. Comfy beds in a clean and cosy room. Great breakfast to set you up for your day ahead and the offer of sandwiches to be made for your next day. Would stay again.

Lovely position, some superb views, with large room in a well appointed hotel/guest house. The staff/owners were efficient polite, helpful, and attentive. Breakfast was well cooked and had good quality ingredients. There were libraries of books related to Lakeland walking etc, and also of modern fiction books available for guests. There is a very pleasant outdoor seating area at the rear, with outdoor bar serving drinks, and basic food (baked potatoes). The shower was very pleasant. There is a boot room for walkers. There is an indoor bar with fruit, chocolate bars, and crisps available 24/7 (you sign up if you buy out of hours).

The lack of a seat in the room was unhelpful. There was no central light, and the bedside /table lights were barely suitable for reading by. You have to ask for handtowels, as they are not automatically supplied. Stupidly large key fob, that is so long you have to keep it in a bag, as sitting down with it in your trouser pocket is uncomfortable. Single bed was a bit lumpy.

Location for coast to coast walk perfect. Outdoor bar and beer garden would be idyllic on a warm summers evening. Bedroom and en-suite lovely with beautiful view of river. Cooked breakfast was super hot and delicious. Excellent variety of homemade jams and marmalades.

Only baked potato or sandwiches offered for dinner. Baked potato filling inadequate. Served in a cardboard carton with wooden utensils. Cooked breakfast only served from 8am. Most of the clientele were coast to coasters and had an 18 mile walk ahead. We, for example wanted to set off between 7 and 7.30 so would have had to have a cold breakfast. As it was we were only able to get off at 9am which resulted in us only arriving in Shap at 7 pm. Also as a higher end B&B in the Lake District is it classy enough to say you can only select 5 items only for your cooked breakfast? Finally, the packed lunch sandwich - chicken bacon and mayonnaise- was basically mayonnaise. It’s probably the worse sandwich I have ever paid for.

Lovely B + B, slightly on the expensive side, but great stay. Love the honesty bar and outdoor area. The hosts were very welcoming.
