"An experience but not comfortable nor pleasant for us during cold and rainy weather"

4.0

Location, quiet, coffee and tea provided, oven available

old, smelly, spiderwebs, quite dirty, cold, not well insulated and all the sounds are spreading from upstairs to downstairs (each step and movement on the bed, whispers), old beds, smelly towels, generally not well maintained and smelly

"Limited options in Topanga. Great location but lacking some comfort & amenities."

6.0

Great location in Topanga. Very rustic & charming with a nice kitchenette and deck to eat on. My kids loved the rope swing. The dog was happy. Easy directions to find the place.

The lighting upstairs was very dim. A flashlight would have been helpful to go to the bathroom at night. Shower soap would also have been useful. The mattress upstairs is creaky/old. The visible spray foam insulation everywhere is unpleasant.

"The only reason not a 10 for us is bathroom is outside, and not a full stove. We will be back!"

9.0

If you like the outdoors and a rustic setting, this is perfect . It's a peaceful cabin in the trees, lots of shade. The view from the balcony and bedroom are like you are in a tree house. It has a fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker with tea and coffee pods, a single small hotplate, and a toaster oven. There are dishes and a sink, sugar and powdered creamer. It has a small space heater and small a/c unit. We brought a small extension cord that we found very useful. A book, games or a craft is recommended as there is no t.v. There are trails that have an overlook and a small cave. 8 different rentals on the property so something for everyone. They have wifi if you want to stream a movie, however we didn't try it out. If you walk up the dirt road you will see the property's other rentals and trails.

This unit did not have a full stove but some of the other units do. The upstairs room is difficult for adults, you have to crawl in and out but it's perfect for kids. The bathroom is outside so bring a flashlight and slip on shoes for night bathroom trips. You will also need shampoo and soap for the tub/shower but there are towels, washcloths and soap for the sink.

"We survived a night. If you are licky you may too."

1.0

This property is a hodgepodge of dilapidated shags scattered trough a forest. It feels like a good place for hermits who try to stay away from civilization and any possibility of human contact. Even the "property management" was non existent despite the assurances we got with the Booking.com reservation confirmation. After three texts and four phone calls nobody answered. This was also true for the phone call we gave in the morning at the day of leaving, when we tried to sort the events we experienced during the perilous night we just spent in this haunted place. If you look to practice your survival skills this is a great place for you. Please just as a peace of mind let a relative of a friend know your location and what are you up to.

We are quite sure we did not like anything about the place. The information we've got from Booking.com was completely miss leading and far away from the grim reality. This place was once long tine ago when mammoths roamed West Coast of North America a tea house opened on all four sides as a meditation pavilion. Then gradually over the years it was enclosed to resemble an approximation of a room and another space under the roof accessible through a 4 feet tall cabinet door. Something which was supposed to be a remote detached restroom was added as a distant reminder that civilization exists after all. The access to both the "tea house" and to the restroom requires a bit of special skills and upmost attention as attention distraction may leas to serious injuries and/or something fatal. If you risk to give it a trail despite my warning bring a powerful flash light and an umbrella with you. You may need it of you plan to use a bathroom at night or in bad weather. Please, please watch for wholes in the ground, "stair steps", protruding nails and other potential dangers. Hospitals are a bit different places than "romantic retreats"! Watch for snakes as there are at least 2 inches gap between the threshold and the "bathroom" door. You may not want to be surprised at the water closet. Also get your survival kit with you. It may come in handy.
