Finest Retreats - Lighthouse Cottage

The cottage clean and tidy. Everything that was needed for cooking, lounging and sleeping was there and very comfortable surroundings. It will be very nice on warm summer evenings to sit outside and look up to the sky and watch the stars.

There wasn't anything to really dislike. Just the local four legged, and the winged verities hadn't realised it was spring and time for courting.

Fabulously wild location. Historic and cosy. Beautiful interior decor and well equipped kitchen.

Bathroom a little smelly, maybe not used for a while?

We love the layout. It felt like home, and the view was amazing from the front room, which was upstairs, and the nature reserve was beautiful, and there was a lot of cattle and sheep running free and watching the birds and hares

Being on the nature reserves, the road is rough, but there is nothing else that we didn't like

In no particular order… Underfloor heating, the shower and the remote button to turn it on. Very comfy bed. Loved the metal art on the walls. Well equipped kitchen.

The road in… but that’s not your fault it’s Mother Nature churning up the road. Slowly, slowly. I was thrown by trying to log into Amazon prime account as it was in Ukrainian I think. Gave up, read a book instead. The sofa was uncomfortable for short people. Also the fitted sheet kept popping off.

The Lighthouse Cottage is a fabulous place to stay if you want peace and quiet along with stunning scenery. The Cottage is very well equipped with everything you will ever need for your stay. Absolutely loved the log burner fire which was so nice when the wind and rain outside was blowing a storm. The Cottage is very tastefully furnished and everything is of the highest quality. The Cottage is on a private Nature reserve and the walks are beautiful with many hides dotted around where you can sit and watch the wildlife. I cannot recommend Lighthouse Cottage highly enough.

Not a problem for us but not suitable if you do not have a car. The long track leading to the Cottage is very bumpy and is mainly gravel with large potholes and about 1.5 miles long (estimated, I didn't measure it). I have a 4x4 so it was not too much of a problem for me but my friend had a standard car and he said his was a real bone shaking ride.

The property was lovely and unusual, the interior was to a very high standard and very comfortable

The journey to the property was a nightmare! I realise it’s a lighthouse on a nature reserve, but I wasn’t prepared for just how bad and dangerous the “road” to the property was! On arrival due to long delays on the M6 we didn’t get to the destination until 8pm, by then it was pitch black, we arrived at the sat nav destination which was the coastguard cottages, however there was no one there to help with or give us instructions to the property. The app that gives you directions to within a metre sq of the property had no sound? Without sound it was useless as all it showed was a line curving round and there were lots of dirt tracks which took us out of our way and we ended up on a narrow ridge in the middle of some kind of lake, which meant there was water on either side of the narrow ridge I’d driven onto, the only way off was to reverse and this was actually terrifying, I had to inch back and then get out of the car to make sure the back wheels weren’t over the edge, I was so scared we were going to end up in the water! My granddaughter was panicking and crying… We ended up driving back into the town and booking into a premier hotel for one night, which I obviously wasn’t happy about. Also the gate to the reserve is locked at 5pm, the one night we got back after 7pm the gate was locked and surrounded by huge heifers ! I could not get the numbers on the padlock to move around and had to call the owners mobile, I did eventually get it opened and then had to try and get these huge animals to move out of the way, all in all journeying to and from the property was not a nice experience and put us off going out anywhere, as we didn’t want to get back after dark. There were no instructions for using some of the appliances in the property, the dishwasher, the coffee machine, the wood burner, the oven….. all appliances vary and was apprehensive of causing any damaging by operating them incorrectly.

Furnished and equipped to a high standard. Spotless and appeared newly decorated. In a brilliant location - magical to be in a working lighthouse cottage.

We were given the wrong keysafe code and were not given the code for the access gate so had to spend time making calls. The people in the Hide next door had exactly the same problems. The instructions for the hot water were confusing - thankfully one of the showers was electric .
