Sea Front Studio with Valletta Views

Velmi hezká lokalita, s výhledem na záliv a historické památky. Apartmán má dostačující vybavení kuchyně, koupelny, vše čisté, funkční klimatizace. Moc milé bylo, že jsme jako pozornost dostali kávu, čaj a vodu. Před domem je zastávka autobusu, který jede přímo do Valletty. Místo je ideální na procházky po poloostrově Vittoriosa a L Isla s pevnostmi, nádhernými kostely a přístavišti, s výhledy na Vallettu.

Do apartmánku se vchází rovnou z ulice, kde je docela provoz, a bývá tam hluk. Apartmán nemá jiné okno, než ve vchodových dveřích, takže je tam trochu temněji a hůře se větrá. Co nám vadilo ale více, byla vlhkost, bylo patrné, že by byl potřeba odvlhčovač. Mokré věci (ručníky, promoklé oblečení) nemají téměř šanci uschnout. V létě to asi bude s vlhkostí lepší, my tam byli v únoru. Postel (resp. rozkládací gauč) nebyla úplně nejpohodlnější. Co se týče vybavení kuchyně, ocenila bych pár drobností, jako třeba naběračka, ale to už je detail. S ohledem na cenu ubytování ho ale i přes drobné nedostatky považuji za hezké.

The only negative was the traffic noise. Boy racers seemed to be enjoy driving to fast and so I slept with earplugs

If you're looking for somewhere in Malta away from the busy and packed areas of Valletta, Sliema, St Julians etc then Kalkara could offer you a tranquil time, yet not so remote as it's close to vibrant Birgu amd Bormla area, plus there is Smart City shopping (20 min walk or no.3 bus from bus stop Fortini or Progress next tier road up from flat) area which I found nice for coffee in the mornings and a walk along the coast to Xghajra Beach. Alternatively there are some bars and shops (Crema di Crema excellent coffee) just on the corner adjacent to the church. Kalkara using the bus (no.3) will take about 30 mins so something to bear in mind, but I was glad I had chosen Kalkara regardless of the travelling. Was lovely to open door to get great image of the bay each morning. Flat has all you need bar a washing machine, though some more kitchen utensils like a spatchelor, tin & bottle opener lacking. I would have like at least some disinfectant left to clean work top and some toilet cleaner. Wi-fi was strong, but had no TV working although owner tried to rectify problem I felt it it bit too late in the day to occupy about. Shower cubicle ok for me, but for a big person it might be awkward. Towels abundant, hair drier supplied. Lighting options very good.

Unfortunately, there are a few negatives - some beyond the control of the owner. The flat sits on a slip road for traffic arriving from above which joins onto the main road (right outside the flat) along the bay. The traffic and noise was horrendous. It can start from 5am to midnight with cars blaring music, motorist tooting (common trait in Malta), delivery lorries, but worst of all boy racers with loud exhausts using the road for joy riding. I kind of got used to it, but annoying all the same especially if you want the door or windows opened. Being situated across the bay there is an issue with condensation and dampness and I could never really air the property well enough the time I was in hence there remained a musty smell. Imo opinion there needs to be a dehumidifier available especially as there is no ventilation for the bathroom. I tried with AC unit. Subsequently there are signs of mould here and there and even on some cushions. Generally the property was clean on arriving, however, it could do with an thorough clean with sugar soap from top to toe in all the nooks and crannies as lots of dust and fluff evident. The biggest issue for me has to be the bed. It's a sofa bed, but one side is super soft and the other is a few cm higher and hard. You have to choose. It sits very low too. I didn't like the linen as they didn't feel "fresh" as in old. I felt the bed was the biggest let down. Despite that issue and the other negatives none of which spoilt my stay and I felt I had good value overall.

The location of this place is absolutely magnificent: you open the door and Kalkara marina is on your doorstep. Round the corner is the beautiful church and there are a few restaurants, a pharmacy and a bus stop within 100m. Birgu is easily accessible on foot from here (10mins walk maximum) and the water taxis from Vittoriosa Harbour to Valletta are frequent and cost only €3 (and are quicker than the bus!) The kitchen has adequate utensils with a few condiments (salt, pepper, oil) and there is a little guide book with places to eat and explore. The apartment is spacious, especially for one person and feels safe. I was able to cook breakfast here every day and store my bike inside at night. Also, there is free parking on the street- although you might have to walk up to 300m to find a space during busy times. Kris the host was a true gentleman and left clear instructions to check-in. Furthermore he was easily reached by text throughout the week.

The bed is not the most comfortable. It is fine for a few days but people with back problems might not fancy sleeping a whole week here. It could do with a mattress topper or something to pad it out. Although it wasn't his fault the cleaners hadn't yet been when I arrived but to Kris's credit he sent them out immediately and very kindly refunded me the first night for the inconvenience. I would stay here again, but maybe not a whole week.

In november I couldnt find fresh vegetables nearby so I ended up just eating at the local restaurants Note : their opening hours vary
