"Our stay at Ruthie Cottage"

9.0

The cottage has been renovated to a high standard throughout and is a good mix of modern convenience, in the kitchen for example, and country cottage charm elsewhere. It was certainly spacious enough for our family of four plus two dogs. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The kitchen and laundry equipment are of a good quality and there is everything you need, and more, if you choose to eat in. Even an extra oven in the utility room! However, the best feature was the dog shower in the yard. Sometimes used more than once a day as our spaniels were adept at bringing sand back from the beach. There is also a hair dryer in the laundry, which was a useful touch. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. Bathrooms were clean and also finished to a good standard. The showers were hot and powerful enough, but bigger bath towels would be helpful. The lounge was "country cottage" cosy, but not cramped. We didn't need to use the wood-burner, but I was very tempted to! Maybe we'll return in the winter to give it a go. The rear garden is tidy and functional. A mixture of patio, a small lawn and raised beds. There is a seperate garage which, if converted, would make an excellent games room or gym. In terms of the location, it is well placed to go off exploring the Norfolk coast, villages and Broads. It is not at the heart of a busy village, but there is a well stocked shop and fish and chip shop within a short walk, and a cafe directly opposite There is also a family owned hairdresser and garage next door. The long sandy beach is a 5-10mins walk away. From there you can walk to Mundesley in one direction, or Walcott in the other. Both have adequate pub restaurants to stop in at. Places like Cromer, Sheringham and the Broads are only short drives away. Overall, this is a very nice, comfortable cottage. The owners have made the best use of the space and have created the perfect mix of old and new.

The driveway isn't really big enough for two cars due to there being an access road for neighbouring cottages to the side and a busy road to the front. My son was able to park on a new build estate 50 yards away, which was fine, but not ideal. Plus, it is quite dicey coming off the drive as the garden wall and hedge obscure the view, even in a SUV. Perhaps consider reducing the height of the hedge.

"Just what we were looking for and would recommend"

Lovely spacious cottage of real character. Clean with all fixtures and fittings of high quality. Secure back garden with easy access to the utility room for dogs

The road to the front is quite busy and noisy.
