The Loop Farmhouse Mooi River

We were met by Beauty who lived on the property, and we didn't use any keys during our stay. We were happy that the house was secure as there were staff on the farm for most of the time.

Beautiful House on a beautiful Cattle Farm. I loved preparing breakfast in the morning in the sunny kitchen. Everything in the house is comfortable for a 'home away from home' stay. This is the perfect home for large families as it can sleep 10. There are heated blankets and a cozy fireplace, perfect during cold winter nights. There is Nespresso machine, just bring your own capsules. There is a big gas braai, or they can arrange to bring a charcoal braai- all cleaned and ready to use. If you do need very big pots, maybe carry one as I didn't find very large pots or pans. Mary did a superb job in cleaning the home and lighting our fires at night. All the staff on the farm, are so hard working and the garden and surrounds are so beautiful. You can have a nice jog or walks to the river. Bring a book and some of your favorite games and just go spend a few days here to revive your soul. Thank you to the family that shares this lovely home with visitors. We honestly will treasure every moment spent here. Although it is pretty secluded, we felt safe.

There isn't anything we didn't like but just some tips: The geyser is kind of small so unfortunately, I don't suggest bubble baths as in winter as the hot water runs out easily. We didn't really mind - just stagger your showers if you are a lot of people- we were 7. The access road is a bit shabby at no fault of the owners but maybe just keep this in mind if you have a low car- it is a farm road after all.

Liked the working farm activities as well as the horses (stallion) and 2 ponies. The vast open space, hills and rivier flowing through the property (albeit the river was in flood). Friendly and accommodating staff (Beaty and Mary - did not meet other workers). Big "stoep" all around the house with beautiful views of the surrounding hills and river.

No decent restaurants near the property (only the country club, where food was good). Bad road to access the farm, but having said this, it was probably damaged by excessive rain the week before our arrival. Parking near the house was very difficult (got stuck in the mud on the first night). Asked the host to park at a different location, which was better, but further away from the house, which made it difficult for my elderly parents, to walk across the soggy lawns. In my view, and I have used numerous Booking.com accommodations in the past, all over the world, the host was not really "present" in attending to one's questions, concerns, etc. The shower in the main bedroom was leaking through the first level wooden floor into the dining room, and I was simply told that they had the plumber there, and "thought" it was fixed, but obviously not!! Then were told to use one of the bathrooms instead, or let the water leak, and the house maid would dry it, not considering inconvenience to the guests, when water was all over the floor downstairs. Had only one response over the 4 days, with no follow-up, to see, if we were OK and if there was something that could be done to make our stay more pleasant.
