Elegant Vintage Villa- Parede

At the beginning of the info on Booking.com it stated it was the “entire villa”, only later that it was an apartment in the villa - very misleading. The apartment is very shabby - we lived in Portugal for many years and were expecting an older traditional house but updated and to a good standard for a holiday home. It was not. The furnishings, paintwork, some of the wooden flooring, kitchen units and bathroom all needed either replacing or refreshing. The double bed was extremely uncomfortable, dipping a lot in the middle that made sleep very difficult. The single beds were very hard so no use as an alternative. When our host showed us round she said that the toilet flush did not always work, best to try the short flush - she was right, very erratic & we often had to take off the cistern lid to sort it out ( filthy inside). A sign said that toilet paper must not be put down the toilet but put in the bin as it would clog up the plumbing - in 2023 in Portugal??? Not acceptable. Much of the grouting round the shower had black mildew. We found our stay so bad and uncomfortable that we double paid for 3 nights in hotels to recover. In fairness we looked at the reviews on Airbnb that were all very positive with no mention of any of the things we have listed. Goes to show that people have very different expectations & views on what is acceptable in a holiday home.
