Cozy Apartment in City Center

Very near the Souk and Maria's restaurant - nice food, great staff, quaint ambience.

We arrived late at night and were greeted by Mohamed (a very charming man with good English), who was helping out his cousin, the owner. As we began to 'settle in', the consternation grew: no bed sheets, bathroom towels, kitchen towels, soap, toilet rolls, or washing up liquid; the kettle didn't work; no hot water; no lighter for the gas rings; the single bed had a dirty sheet and quilt on it, and had obviously been slept in; and the kitchen surfaces, oven and hob were dirty. Mohamed was unable to contact his cousin (who was probably in hiding) and so brought some things from his mother's to help with the night's essentials. The following day a woman came - a proprietor? She was dismissive, and totally unapologetic about the state of apartment. But then, only because she failed to fix the hot water problem, we were moved to apartment #2, which was much better, though still very basic. When making the booking we didn't notice that there was no WiFi available. Nowadays it is a more significant problem than one would hope - and costly. Generally, we don't mind 'roughing' it a bit when travelling but apartment #1 was pushing it way beyond. Our thanks to Mohamed and his mother for providing everything that the cousin should have provided. The cousin is probably still in hiding.
