"It was disappointing."

3.0

It was rather tired and tatty like student accommodation! Huge cracks and dents in the front door. Several huge black bin liners on the outside rails – open with rubbish trailing out onto the pavement. Next door house was virtually derelict with the front door boarded up, the bases of the front balconies had fallen off. Our communal hallway smelt old and damp. A wooden bannister was coming away from the wall and had a nasty dangerous nail at the bottom. Cheap carpet throughout. The lock into the flat was very stiff and awkward. The kitchen looked nice at a glance but was badly equipped with minimal crockery – eg had only 3 mugs, one of which was chipped. The 1 tea towel and dishcloth were VERY grubby and had to be washed immediately. There was a filthy, rusty metal scourer. No oven gloves supplied. Very few knives one of which was chipped – no small paring knife; no scissors; needed a bigger oven tray. The fridge had a piece of white edging that kept falling off, and was wet inside. The bin had no lid and therefore attracted flies. The chopping board was filthy. No instructions re which switch turned off the cooker at the wall in the event of a fire. Living Room ceiling had bubbles. We heard scratching in the attic at night - presumably vermin! I rang owner beforehand to check there was a duvet and bedding for the sofa bed. I was assured it was in a storage drawer. We could not find drawer or the duvet and bedding. Searching for bedding we found the coffee table would not return to its original state and therefore had no functioning coffee table. The sash windows would not stay open and one was propped open rather awkwardly and dangerously with a small door stopper. The bedroom – a nice sized room. But old and unironed bedding. The pillows smelt of a previous guest. The shower room was a good space, but much deterioration around the shower base. The temperature was either cold or burning hot. There could have been so much more advice pertaining to parking.

"Lovely gesture of a little gift left.. really made us feel welcomed."

Beautiful seaview.. spacious. The little gestures and thoughtfulness of the hosts.

Maybe keep some powdered milk in stock so guests can have a hot drink on arrival even if they've forgotten the milk!!

"Clean, tidy, convenient & comfortable stay within walking distance of everything"

8.0

Very convenient for Dreamland (we were there for a concert) and for the old town and with free on street parking just a few doors away. Very comfortable bed and the fan was a welcome edition in this heatwave. Very quiet (except for the seagulls) and the most fabulous little bar with the best pizzas (freshly made) right outside the back yard! If you look out of the bedroom window you look onto the rear courtyard of The Covell’s Tavern - don’t miss it, it’s amazing!

Not much really. It’s a bit tired and could do with a lick of paint especially in the bathroom but for a one night stay it was pretty much perfect! Could do with a couple more window props (we used the waste bin and a book) and not quite sure about the purpose of the bizarre sloping bar flap! But none of these spoiled our stay - just observations.

"Not bad at all. Frustrated by some rectifiable niggles."

8.0

The gifts of chocolates and Prosecco. Thank you. Having a fridge and a freezer. The kitchen knives are wonderfully sharp. I managed to park right opposite. My parking fairy was working well. 🤣

The breakfast bar is a complete joke and needs to be reconstructed at a level an-out 300mm lower with proper bracket. The sloping top is a non starter. The standard lamp in the living room is rubbish. It gives out less light than my iPhone. It needs a more powerful LED bulb and a dimmer switch fitted. The kitchen lighting is too bright and needs to be on a dimmer switch. The vertically (non-sliding) sash windows are appalling and all need to be completely renovated. There are missing and/or broken ropes. There are no sash locks so they cannot be locked as you asked. Only one of them opens a little at the bottom providing insufficient ventilation on such a hot weekend. The upper sash lights have all been painted closed. The bedroom window and the LH living room window can’t be opened at all. The main entrance door is in an appalling state with an huge crack in it and needs to be properly repaired by a skilled joiner or replaced. At present it presents a security hazard as it would be so easy to kick it in. The power socket behind the double bed is in an inaccessible location making it about as useless as a chocolate tea pot. It needs to be relocated in the alcove to the left of the bed. A few more items in the kitchen would help, such as a cheese grater and some egg cups. A bread knife would be good too. A Nespresso machine and a few capsules would add a touch of luxury.
