Catherine Cruises Ha Long Bay

The staff was outstanding. They did everything they could to help you. (For example our light in the bathroom was flickering when we arrived. As soon as we informed them, they fixed it.) The dinners were amazing. From the food to service. The room was beautiful and the view spectacular. They had a lot of different excursions to offer. The day boat is nice, modern and clean.

Breakfast was very limited. The room was very humid! The plan of activities they give you at the beginning is confusing as it does not always match what they do. The biggest problem for us was that the fire alarm went off at 3am without reason: We were sleeping but got woken up by the sound of course! All of a sudden the staff was there to ring at our room, insinuating that we were smoking or using the water boiler. Which we obviously were not doing. After this, we had a hard time falling back asleep. So the plan of doing tai chi in the morning and exploring the cave was ruined. We tried to sleep a few hours more. When we checked out, they told us it was a defective device and offered tea to calm us down and let us sleep in the transfer for later. Very disappointing situation.

Everything. The boat was beautiful and our cabin was amazing. The food was delicious and very well presented. The staff couldn't have been kinder or more professional. A big thanks to Felix, the coordinator who looked after us and made an effort to meet all the guests individually. We enjoyed the trips with him too. A 20/10 for Felix. Also a special mention for Mary, our very lovely server. She couldn't have been more attentive. She made us feel very special the evening of our celebration. 20/10 for her too. (a 10/10 just isn't enough.

The trips are very tightly packed giving little time to relax on the boat, but we could have opted out.

Staff were very nice especially Mary and Phuc who help us with everything. Rooms are clean and nice - very recommend:)

The cabin was very well appointed, and the cruise takes you through the stunning region of Halong bay - the food is absolutely spectacular, and we were lucky enough to have Mary looking after us - Nothing was too much trouble her, the company is very lucky to have her

The itinerary is not flexible and timings not necessarily made for guests benefit, more so the boat’s schedule’s benefit. Extremely early wake up calls if you want to go on the excursions off the boat, with no option to get back on if you want to, until the planned pickup time, which was very late. Being on the beach / kayaking for 8 hours in the cloudy cold weather is not ideal. This put us off going on the excursions and we stayed in our cabin most of the stay, as there was practically nothing else to do on the ship during the day. It would have been a different story if the weather was nice but I think the ship should adjust the itinerary for winter / cold months.
