USWe were excited to stay within a couple of blocks of our family. The dead end street backing up to the park was quiet and easy to access. The yard was well kept and our kids enjoyed playing in it. There is a convenience store one block away. The kitchen had all the proper accessories and was easier to use than mine at home. The lay out was very comfortable and tge choice of furniture was esthetically pleasing and functional. The plumbing works well and all the fixtures were updated. It was super clean and my white socks stayed that way even as I moved for hours throughout the house. We enjoyed the game room, it was a nice break from the screen . As an older house there were limited number of electrical sockets but we discovered a couple of extension cords to help us out. There were sufficient cleaning products, garbage bags, paper towels , dish and hand soap and toilet paper to get us through our 5 day stay without need to restock which was a first for us!
As I paid twice as much for this stay as I have ever done before I give myself leeway to be more particular than previous reviews. The house has settled making climbing to the front door with suitcases treacherous. It was not made easier by the myriad packages left daily on the front step blocking our safe passage. We were able to figure out that going through the garage and up the indoor stairs was a safer and easier path. Simple fixes would be more hand towels and bath towels. No one wants to do laundry on vacation. There were no additional blankets for the cool nights we experienced and we are used to having lovely duvets in duvet covers. The simple bedspreads were insufficient. There was only one extra pillow which had to be discovered in the back of a closet . Guests without were uncomfortable and disappointed especially given the flatness of the pillows provided. There were no instructions as to the use of the thermostat which caused some consternation. The manual for the coffee maker was available on line , but why should I have had to look it up? There was no coffee made available for the first morning and we had to go up the street to buy a cup. The windows have all been replaced but as Double-hung windows they fall down because their internal balance system has failed, lost tension, or disconnected. The hosts must be aware as they left pieces of plastic to prop them open. The greatest problem of all was that we were not forewarned regarding the mold and mildew problem in the basement. When we discovered the dehumidifier it’s use helped-though again, why am I emptying a dehumidifier on vacation? It should be hooked up to continuous drain of the condensation. We have reason to return to the neighborhood but two of our group have asthma which was exacerbated by the mold and mildew. Should they travel with us we would not rent this place. The hosts hav been made aware as they asked for our feedback. Hopefully they will attend to the concerns.
USClean and comfortable inside. Only ~6 miles to Acrisure Stadium / downtown!
Nothing. The property provided everything to make the stay pleasant and comfortable.
USClean comfortable house in Squirrel Hill, close to Frick Park. Good internet connection. Kitchen with all the amenities. Extra powder room in the basement.
Parking was a bit of a challenge. One of the reasons we chose this place is that it was supposed to have easy off-street parking (and even a garage), but there was a large truck and construction equipment across the street that made it impossible to use the driveway or garage. The main bathroom is very small -- the sink and toilet are VERY close together, which could be a challenge for large humans. There were also some hidden fees in the price of this rental -- the Booking.com price (which was supposed to include taxes and fees) was hundreds of dollars less than what we actually paid to the owner.
USComfortable beds and couch, good climate control, wood floors, good neighborhood, forest path to Frick Park, a 460-acre park.
The front stairs and basement stairs are steep. We were there in good weather, but I can imagine those front steps would be treacherous with any ice. But we managed just fine. The house was fine, but most of the furniture was sort of IKEA grade.
