Kingdom of Rustic Ella

Avec ma femme et mon fils, nous avons passé 4 nuits chez Chama et Niluka, et les membres de leur famille. Nous avons vécu une merveilleuse expérience au sein de cette famille sri lankaise. En dehors de Ella, notre bungalow au milieu des rizières avec vue sur les montagnes étaient formidables. C'est un lieu dans la nature, simple et authentique. Chama nous a donné plein de conseils et aidé pour organiser notre sejour..De plus, nous avons adoré la cuisine (petit déjeuner et diner) de sa femme Nilika. En quelques mots, l'une de mes plus belles expériences au Sri Lanka 🙏. Meric. Nicolas.

The location is serene and peaceful. The hosts Chana and his wife are amazing and have deliberately chosen a simple and slow life. The food is lovely, fresh. Views are stunning. Overall it is a back to nature and back to roots type home stay concept where you can reconnect with yourself and find some much needed peace.

Nothing much to dislike.

Relaxing place in the woods with rice paddys literally next to your doorstep. You really feel that nature surrounds you with wildlife and beautiful scenery greeting you every morning. Fantastic host family who go the extra mile for their guests. They are still developing this place, and are very open to suggestions (love this!) Ella is a 25min ride away, and the local bus is a good alternative in daytime. Seems a bit exotic at first, but once you try it's cheap and functional.

Lacks a few practical details and written info, but the hosts are continiously working on it. No AC.

This family-run guesthouse is located in a stunning setting—beneath the room flows a peaceful stream, with breathtaking views of the mountains and rice fields. Charma and his family were wonderful hosts who welcomed us with warmth and generosity, including a delicious dinner and a joyful family celebration for the Sri Lankan New Year. If you’re looking for an authentic, traditional Sri Lankan family experience—just 20 minutes from Ella, in a quiet area with incredible scenery—this is the perfect place. Highly recommended!

The location is beautiful. Surrounded in nature. Very friendly family, traditional experience. Very helpful neighbor, tuk tuk driver. Thank you.

The location was gorteous, the accommodation clean, the surrounding stunning. The owner are super friendly and helpful. We loved this place.

The place is in the most gorgeous location. We ended up staying longer than we had planned for because we truly could not get enough. The food prepared by Chama’s wife was honestly divine and we ended up eating dinner here most nights. Also no mosquitoes! Extremely friendly owners that will help with everything. 10/10 would recommend.

Nothing at all.

The scenery is breathtaking and so peaceful. You can really slow down and watch daily life for the wonderful people up here, surrounded by nature. The food was incredible, fresh from the fields. Chama and his whole family are so friendly, you really feel welcomed into the family. He was so accommodating too, helped us do all the things we wanted to do. Can’t recommend this place enough.

This was probably the nicest place we have ever stayed. The location is about 15-20 mins from Ella town but it's 100% worth it. The chalet is situated in the mountains overlooking the valleys and rice fields. It feels like a backdrop it's so surreal. The couple running it are wonderful and couldn't do more for us. They cooked their local homemade rice and curry dish for us using all their own produce and it was easily the best thing we have ever eaten. Cannot recommend enough!

We visited Sri Lanka with my husband and his parents. This property absolutely exceeded our expectations. Even though it is slightly away from Ella town (which is in itself another reason to stay there), the accommodation is worth every penny as it is placed amongst rice paddy fields overlooking the surrounding hills and the service provided by Chama and his wife (the property hosts) was soo heart warming that I would choose it over a 5 star hotel any day. We were greeted by Chama who drove us up to our villa and through out our stay was happy to come pick us up from the bottom of the hill whenever we made a nearby trip into other towns. He has a lot of knowledge of the area and happily gave us plenty of tips including some hidden gems such as Ellawella Falls. Chama, along with his wife (Niluka) made us a tasty home cooked meal on the first evening for an additional cost that was so delicious that we decided to have all of our meals with them for the three days that we stayed there. They even walked us through their style of cooking on one of the nights. Chama is very attentive and it was very clear that he cares a lot for his guests to have the best possible experience during their stay. If your interest is something different from a commercialised/luxury hotel, with a lovely local host family, this is your place.
