The location of the rural farm cottage is excellent! it is within easy driving distance of most amenities. There are also restaurants and pubs located in the area, One can drive the short distance to one of three Cambridge, Park and Ride facilities in about 10 minutes.

The maintenance crew need to check all the minute details when preparing the cottage for guests. There were fused bulbs in some of the lamps. A minor point perhaps. However, when we reported the issue the owners of the cottage very kindly brought the required new bulbs over, even though it was raining very heavily. Having said that, we would very happily stay again if we return to the same area in the future.

"A peaceful and comfortable place where we could enjoy walking in beautiful countryside."

9.0

Beautifully quiet and undisturbed by street lights. We liked the recycling facilities. Everything worked. It was clean and everything was in good order. I liked the sofa. It was extremely comfortable and was sensibly upholstered with fabric that was very tough - perhaps because some people have dogs that like to sit on the sofa. It was helpful having maps showing where the footpaths are. People in the village were friendly. The countryside was beautiful. It was wonderful to be able to walk along a path where camomile was growing and to see and smell fields full of wildflowers. We loved the two dog-friendly restaurants/ pubs that we visited, nearby: The Wheatsheaf/ La Pergola at the turn-off from the main road to the Eversden villages; and The White Horse/ Luk Thai on the main road in Barton.

There was a sign saying "take your shoes off before going upstairs, if they're muddy" but I didn't realise until the dog had gone upstairs that - on the front page of the guide book to the house - we're requested to ensure the dog stays downstairs. That constraint might not suit some doggy families, although we were fine with having our dog downstairs and away from the clean bedding and carpets. It would have been helpful having a stair gate, to keep the dog from going upstairs. We rigged something up: leaving the downstairs cloakroom door open so it blocked the stairs. Ours is a golden retriever. If she'd been a chihuahua she would have been able to slip past that. We banged our heads a few times encountering storage spaces where the ceiling was lower than we expected. My husband banged his head on the cooker hood. Perhaps it's because I pulled it out and didn't return it to its proper position. It's a bit tricky walking along the road to the village, because in some stretches there's no pavement, and it felt scary knowing that our lives were entirely dependent on drivers' good sense. I had a sense of transgression, walking in the fields with my dog and not being entirely certain where she was allowed to run off-lead and where she should stay by my side so as to leave wild birds in peace. This is the unease of a city person visiting the country. There were places where the signs were very clear, and I welcomed that.
