"The most wonderful place to stay in Myoko Kogen. We had the best time, went skiing and out to dinner with Hari and we ta"

10.0

Everything. We had the most amazing stay and trip to Myoko. This property had everything and the owners Hari and Grace plus the whole team made us feel like family! Close to the slopes, shop, cafes, Bars, restaurants, transport. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay!

Nothing negative at all.

"A nice location that with competent management and honest advertising could be a great place"

4.0

Breakfast was OK but there was no proper coffee - only instant - despite the Booking.com page saying that there was a coffee house on site. There was no butter - it was margarine. The ofuro was good but there was not adequate instruction on how to use the bath so people wore their slippers into the change room area and some guests were taking the sennoki (rinse buckets) into the bath itself.

The page on Booking.com says that there is a restaurant - there isn't. We stayed with our two-year old son and wanted to eat in the hotel in the evening - but there was no restaurant service so for two nights we ate cup ramen. The Booking.com site also says that there is room service - there was nothing of the sort. The Booking.com site says that there is a bar - there is no bar. The Booking.com site says that there is a mini market on site - there is nothing of the sort - even the single vending machine was broken. If you wanted food you had to walk 15 minutes to the local convenience store. Yes, there were TVs but none of them worked. There were not enough staff - the two staff on site were polite and helpful but they could not speak Japanese so they didn't know about takkyubin services/ordering taxis. There was no driver and so arranging a lift to nearby ski fields or the station depended on whether the owner happened to be visiting the hotel at that moment. Looking at the reviews of this hotel prior to the current management (about 2 years ago) it was clear that there was an attentive Japanese couple who provided meals, gave lifts to people and really looked after guests. The current hotel needed a dedicated manager to run the place and manage the two-member staff - but instead the owner popped in and out at irregular intervals and it felt like there was no one in charge and no one making sure everything was running smoothly. If the place was charging 15,000-20,000 yen a night per room then you could argue that a room, bath and breakfast were sufficient - 50,000 yen a night for a room was a bit rich for what was provided. It isn't a hard problem to solve - have one Japanese speaking manager on site, have a functional drink vending machine, have a mini-kiosk to buy chips/snacks/drinks, have a driver on call to help ferry guests around (even if you charged) and remove the the misleading reference to having a restaurant and bar.
