Cermeño's House

The location is off the main big streets of Antigua so it's quiet at night, but also close to places to eat, supermarket, ATMs and walkable to plenty of shops and tour businesses. This spot is ran by a local family who keeps the place spotless and clean. There's a small rooftop and seating for a nice view of Antigua and the surrounding volcanoes and a communal kitchen for anything needed such as a mini frig for storage, stove, utensils, filtered water etc. The family does not speak much English, but are very sweet, friendly and accommodating. Google translate was very helpful when I had to communicate with them. They also have two dogs that live in the household that are super friendly, especially Luis the little chihuahua who would literally lay and sleep on your lap if you let him sit on the couch with you.

The bathroom isn't attached to the room, but it is private to only your own use, which is basically the design of the home. Because I was in Antigua so close during their holidays, there were a lot of street parties and music around for celebrations and that echoes into the house. The noise did die down around midnight so an fyi in case there are special celebrations in the town area, there will be lots of activity regardless.

Had a lovely feel to it, very relaxed and friendly. Staff were absolutely great and super helpful. It was spotlessly clean, with a little place on the roof to sit with nice views. Location is fantastic, with nice shops, restaurants and bars all very close. Also a short walk to the centre. They do laundry on site too for a very reasonable price which is very handy. They have a kitchen area with everything you need to prepare your own food. They also have a small restaurant.

If you’re alright having a private bathroom that isn’t en-suite, it’s good value for money. The double with en-suite is extremely small and compared to other properties is overpriced. You do however have the kitchen to use. The showers in both the rooms with en-suites were cold.

The staff, while only Spanish speaking, were very helpful. They could give directions and exchange currency, but would only accept US dollars. The location has dozens of restaurants within a 600m walk.

Our shower heater was difficult to operate, we had cold showers for the first 2 days our friends didn't get theirs working at all. Our room had no door handle so they gave us a bicycle lock. It worked and we never felt unsafe in Antigua at all, but your concerns may vary.

Clean, airy, and although it was super close to the downtown area, the house is located on nice quiet street. Staff was lovely.
