The house was okay. However, my boyfriend and I booked the apartment on June 9th and immediately submitted a request for check-in at 7–8 a.m. (something you can do through Booking). Since I am originally from the island and work there, I met with the host’s daughter so she could show me which building it was, as I was going to drop off my boyfriend and head straight to work. Of course, Ioanna was very helpful and showed me, telling me she would send the check-in instructions the night before we were supposed to arrive (at 7 in the morning). The day before our arrival comes, and at midnight (00:00), I decided to send a message myself asking for the instructions, since my boyfriend was flying early in the morning and we hadn’t received any info regarding the door code or anything else. The reply came at 00:14, saying that the previous guests had a flight issue and we wouldn’t be able to check in at that time, but instead at 2:00 p.m. Naturally, I said this wasn’t right, as we had requested early check-in a month in advance and now my boyfriend would be stuck out on the street in a city he didn’t know until 2:00 p.m. in the heat. After that, I received a personal phone call from the host, who was extremely rude and not helpful at all. She repeatedly emphasized that we had no compassion because we didn’t understand the other guests’ issue — yet she had no problem leaving us out on the street. She kept pointing out that she had 5 stars on the app, implying that this meant the house and her service were perfect. These supposed “5 stars” she referred to were on a different platform, not on Booking, where we had made the reservation — clearly showing she prioritizes platforms where she has better reviews to secure her clientele. She also told me that she could have charged us extra for the early check-in but didn’t — something we honestly wouldn’t have minded, as we were willing to pay a bit more to get in earlier. But the way she threw it at us felt like a threat.
