"Exceptional"

10.0

Lovely and lovingly decorated and appointed. Very comfortable and clean. Weber BBQ available. Great location - convenient to Bodiam Castle and surrounding area. Birchwood Restaurant is a very short walk toward Flimwell: highly recommended for breakfast or lunch.

No oven but knew this going into it.

"A great place for short stays."

9.0

Well located with off road parking. Private garden. Lovely bedrooms, well thought out and decorated. Good WiFi and lovely to have the fire stick. Once the garden was made secure for the pooches (one being Houdini in disguise) we could let them out without worrying.

Personally, I struggle with only having curtains in the bedrooms. They will cut heat loss, so I recommend curtains or blinds. I recommend a chimney sheep for the chimney, if not installing a wood stove. A stove would make a great addition to the house as the ambient temperature was on the cool side, with the draught down the chimney. We found the seats too low for the dining table. A handle on the wall for getting in/out of the shower on to the tiled floor wouldn’t go amiss either.

"Comfortable with everything we could need"

8.0

It was very comfortable, much more spacious than I had expected, and the hosts had thought of everything we could possibly need. The communication beforehand was excellent and they were really helpful and accommodating. It was perfect for the purpose of our trip.

It was a little cold, particularly with stone floors throughout, and the heating was off as in June it’s fair to assume it should have been warmer! But Lauren was really helpful getting it sorted very quickly.

"A welcoming property that's exceptionally dog and family friendly"

9.0

We really enjoyed our stay at the Janitor's Lodge. It's a comfortable and welcoming property that is well suited for a family or two couples who know each other well. The owners have renovated the interior in an eclectic but pleasing style, doing most of the work themselves. It's quirkily attractive, and a lot of thought has been given to anticipating the needs of guests. For example, there's an interesting selection of books for a rainy day or lazy evening, and the fact that they have also provided some children's books is a nice touch. The kitchenette is well equipped for basic self catering and it's always nice when hosts bother to leave some milk in the fridge. The bathroom is modern. Special mention should be made of how exceptionally comfortable the bed and duvet in the master bedroom are, and the extraordinary fact that there is a selection of different types of pillows provided! For us, the highlight was how dog friendly the accommodation was. Not only are dogs allowed, but they're positively welcomed with a basket of doggie goodies, including water and food bowls, treats, poo bags and a towel to dry off your mutt after a long country walk. Guests are welcome to make use of the huge garden which has play equipment for children. There's ample safe off road parking.

There was nothing we didn't like about Janitor's Lodge, but it's worth bearing in mind that the kitchen is best suited to self catering for breakfast and picnic lunches. However, because there is only a microwave and a two plate induction hob (with no oven), it might not suit visitors who are looking to fully self cater for a long period.

"A Kent version of the Cotswolds."

10.0

The accommodation was perfect for what we needed. A warm cozy home for a family in a great location to visit the nearby castles, towns and area. The house itself was unique and fun and had everything we needed!

The door handles to the different rooms. They are sharp plastic and didn't work the greatest, but did not take away from the home at all.
