We’re reaching out to share an experience my family recently had while staying at Villa Don Peppe in Fasano, booked through Booking.com, as we believe it raises concerns regarding hospitality standards and the treatment of families travelling with children. We had booked a two-night stay and were unexpectedly asked to leave after the first night, with the second night cancelled by the property owner. The reason provided was that we had brought food for our child into the breakfast area. As parents travelling with a child, we carried suitable food for our child’s needs, especially considering no dietary preferences, restrictions or child-related requirements had been discussed with us in advance. At no point during booking, check-in or within the property information were we informed that bringing personal food into the breakfast area was prohibited. The situation escalated when the owner entered the breakfast area visibly upset, approached my wife and child, and informed us we were not allowed to bring food, stating that breakfast was “a gift” and that outside food was not permitted. Shortly afterwards, our second night was cancelled, leaving us to urgently seek alternative accommodation with our child. We fully respect property rules when clearly communicated. However, we feel that asking a family with a child to leave, based on a rule not visibly stated or communicated, raises questions about proportionality, professionalism and guest care within the hospitality sector. Our intention is not conflict, but transparency and awareness regarding how guests — particularly families travelling with children — are treated.
