Nelum Home stay

The food was delicious, her family was lovely including her older son for driving me to the one hike for 1000 and to Dambulla after for 1500. She was very kind and I appreciate the help with making my curry. Nelum made great breakfasts such as cocunut/millet roti with dal, fruit, and tea; which were included and a well priced dinner which was great too. She was flexible with what she made. The room has 2 fans to keep things cool.

At first, the family welcomes you warmly, makes you feel at home, and treats you like one of their own—only to hit you with an unexpected bill at the end. Always ASK FOR PRICES UPFRONT! Nelum doesn’t have a good level of English (and at times, it feels intentional), and when we asked about the cost of the meals, she would always refuse to tell us and say, “later, later.” We completely trusted them, felt like part of the family, but in the end, we discovered we were paying the same price for Rice and Curry as we would at a luxury restaurant. We were given two bottles of water with every meal, which we never requested but had to pay for in the end, at an expensive cost (double price than normal). We even had to pay for the water served with breakfast, despite breakfast being included in the price! The activities Nelum suggests as “free” are simply a way to pressure you into buying something. The family claimed they weren’t after money, but in the end, we were treated like walking wallets. We felt deeply betrayed when we left! It ruined our overall experience.

We love the family that’s receive us at Nelum home, we felt there at home. Everything was super nice and we really recommend it.

Very friendly family, if you want to live the real Sri Lanka life, it is the place to be. Nelum is a very good person always ready to help you. I recomand warmly

Very nice homestay. We had a wonderfull experience meeting the family. Nelum is a very talented and lovely woman. She went out of here way to help us and was always very kind and friendly. Location is close the the main road so easy to visit restaurants and bars. We also ate two nights at the homestay which was very tasty! Breakfast was good and also enough! Many homestays in Sri lanka are not like a homestay, they are more like hotels/guesthouses. If you want a real homestay experience, stay at this place. We hope to come back someday!

It was really lovely room with bathroom, the family is very friendly and helped with renting bicycles, the owner cooked dinner for us which was perfect experience to try local cuisine.we really enjoyed the stay and recommend to stay there 😃
