Blue Star hotel, which was an emergency booking at short notice after my original accommodation was cancelled owing to an electrical fault and the replacement hotel was not licensed for foreign guests, is a very short walk from Varanasi Junction and convenient for most of the city (which I was able to explore entirely on foot). The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was passably clean. Breakfast (included) was simple and meagre but delivered to the room and tasty (although the sweet, milky coffee is not something I would normally drink). There are numerous places to shop, eat and drink in very close proximity to the hotel.

Finding the hotel could have been easier - Maps shows it at the opposite end of the alley in which it is located. Other than that, my main complaint is that I had to remind staff about breakfast each morning! When I arrived, the kettle in my room had no lead, then when one was supplied, it was too short and I had to hold the kettle next to the plug when I boiled it! There was, however, no balcony as listed.
