De Vere Cotswold Water Park Apartments

There’s a lot to like about De Vere Cotswolds, especially the new facilities, large 2-bed ‘flat’ type room, and friendly service. The gym was larger than I expected, while the brasserie and lounge was nicer than I expected. My wife also loved the buffet.

The big let-down was the view, the 1/2-bed rooms are all in a separate building, and my guess is 60% are not lake facing. That wouldn’t be an issue if the rest had a forest view, but the line of cars between the forest and building really kills the mood - it’s not a ‘forest experience’ Now I get that even though I requested a lake view it wasn’t ensured, but I did expect I could easily access the lake - which also is not the case. There’s no real ‘relaxing’ area with a lake view or loungers, there’s only the outside brasserie seating. If you want to lay out in the sun by the lake, you’re out or luck. Even the lake walk has no real lake view. So basically, we had a nice room that could have been anywhere in the Cotswolds, the lake didn’t play a part of the trip. Most hotels solve this issue by naming the rooms ‘Lake view’ and ‘Forest view’ so you know what you’re getting. Not here, it’s luck of the draw. I’d happily pay 10% more for a view, while others I’m sure would rather save a few £. Just separate the rooms by view and don’t get all of our hopes up that we may get a nice view…

View of lake and balcony. Good sized apartment with well equiped kitchen. Fan which was essential in heatwave. Excellent, helpful staff. Walking distance to 2 great lakes for swimming and water sports. Lovely spa. I would really recommend.

I will say the rooms were very very warm and well insulated, which in summer is not so great, but when requested a fan from reception it was delivered to our room swiftly so can’t fault it.
