Summer and winter homestay Turtuk Youl

Turtuk is a small village and this homestay sits nestled within the village. The owner and his wife are wonderful people - he does go out of his way to help you and she makes fantastic Balti home-style food. You will sit in their kitchen and have this food, while he tells you the history of his region. It does take 10-15 minutes to walk up from the parking area, but if I could do it as a 61 year old (carrying a 7 kg backpack), so can most people.

The cleanliness could have been better, but since it is a homestay in the middle of the village, it is what it is. Just don't go expecting a hotel-like environment, and you will be fine.

This place is HUGELY OVERPRICED (at least on booking.com...) I paid more than 1900 The INR/night. You can get much nicer rooms in a better location in Turtuk, for literally half that much.

The setting was magnificent. The view from our bedroom window was fabulous with the home garden with flowers and veg below and the Himalayas above. The host was super welcoming and I felt privileged to stay with this hardworking family in a very warm community who are really trying to develop their village to attract tourists. Being able to walk through the village with cobblestones and little shops here and there was really lovely. Clean water flows along the cobbled streets and we could hear the water in our room which was very relaxing. Our room was en-suite with a good shower with plenty of hot water. The entrance area and corridors were clean with marble tiles and I guess newly painted.

Cleaning the windows would make a big difference as the view is so beautiful. Giving the en-suite bathroom and sink outside the bathroom a good scrub would make a difference. 2 chairs in the room would also help. The only sheet on our bed was the under sheet and a blanket. My husband found a clean white sheet in the cupboard above the bed so we made the bed. The electric fan could also do with cleaning. The bed itself was clean and comfortable.

Loved the host- Rayees bhai. He was absolutely helpful each and every minute. Loved the location as it's inside the village. The whole set up was absolutely comfortable.

I loved the location as it's inside village but people travelling with lots of luggage may not like the location as it's little inside. Solo travellers would love it though.
