On the morning of check-in, I received a call from some "OYO Group" instructing me to pay the tariff online without which they would cancel the booking. (Hotel booking cancellation policy in booking.com was "Free Cancellation anytime"). Even though the hotel was informed of my check-in time and payment would be made at the time of check-in (as per booking.com hotel policy), the someone from "OYO group" contacted me and stated that they do not accept cash and booking needs to be made only online immediately in the morning via debit/credit card to hold the booking and not during my check-in. This appeared to be some sort of a scam and hence and I was not comfortable staying in this hotel anymore. I immediately cancelled the booking via booking.com portal and stayed elsewhere. It was a hastle for me to look for another hotel at the last minute, but found it to be safer this way. It is suggested to booking.com portal to brief the hotel clearly about the policies and guidelines so that such cases can be avoided in the future.
